CALEB'S SECRET

"CALEB"
-David Wilkerson.

Caleb, whose name means forcible, fortitude, is a type of one who
clings to the Lord! Caleb was inseparable from Joshua, representing
one who continually walks with the Lord through all the distractions of life.

Caleb had accompanied the spies over Jordan, where the Holy Spirit
drew him to Hebron—"the place of death." Abraham and Sarah were
buried there, as were Isaac and Jacob and the patriarchs, and years
later, David's kingdom would begin there. With awe Caleb climbed
that hallowed mountain and faith flooded his soul. He prized that
sanctified place and from that time on, he wanted Hebron for his
possession.

It was said of Caleb that he "wholly followed the Lord" (Numbers
14:24). He never wavered to the very end and at eighty-five years
of age he could testify: "As yet I am as strong this day as I was in
the day that Moses sent me: as my strength was then, even so is
my strength now, for war, both to go out, and to come in" (Joshua 14:11).

In his old age Caleb waged his greatest battle! "Now therefore give
me this mountain [Hebron]..." (14:12). "And Joshua blessed him,
and gave unto Caleb...Hebron for an inheritance..." (14:13). "Hebron
therefore became the inheritance of Caleb...because that he wholly
followed the Lord" (14:14).

The message is glorious: It is not enough to have died to sin—to
have entered fullness sometime in the past. The need is to grow in
the Lord to the end! To keep your spiritual power and strength
without wavering. To "wholly follow the Lord" even in old age!

Hebron—Caleb's inheritance—means a company associated!
Associated with what? With death! Not only the death to sin in
Jordan, but living in a place of death. Living with those who are
associated with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! "Give
me this mountain," Caleb had prayed. In other words, "Give me this
walk of death to self!" It was here that Abraham had built an altar
to sacrifice his son and it was here that Caleb and his tribe would
live, constantly associated with that altar of living sacrifice.

Caleb's wholeheartedness for the Lord produced a holy fire for God
in his children. While the children of the two and a half tribes turned
away and embraced the world and its idolatry, Caleb's family grew
stronger in the Lord!

God’s desire for all of us is that we enter a place of rest, joy and
peace in the Holy Ghost. That requires following him “with all thy
heart…and with all thy strength” to the very end (Mark 12:30).

IS IT OK TO be GAY & CHRISTIAN?

IS IT OK TO be GAY & CHRISTIAN?
-by J. Lee Grady.

Charismatic pastor Jim Swilley’s announcement that he is gay
opened the door wider for a subtle delusion. Don’t believe it.

Many people were shell-shocked last week when Atlanta pastor
Jim Swilley stood in front of his congregation, Church in the Now in
Conyers, Ga., and announced that he is gay. The 52-year-old
minister was abruptly removed from his position in the International
Communion of Charismatic Churches—a network in which he
served as an overseer. Some of Swilley’s members left his church,
others stayed, and countless others are now scratching their heads.

We Americans are lost in a moral fog. Two major Protestant
denominations (the Episcopal Church USA and the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America) have voted to ordain gay clergy.
Meanwhile, gayness is celebrated in our media, and anyone who
refuses to bow to this idol is painted as intolerant and homophobic.

Christians who still believe homosexuality is incompatible with
biblical faith feel painted into a corner. If we defend Christian
morality, and even if we speak with compassion to those who may
struggle with same-sex attraction, we are accused of hate speech
or branded as judgmental. So we tiptoe through the minefield of
political correctness—and keep our mouths shut.

Sorry, but timidity on this issue is not acceptable. The sins we
avoid addressing from the pulpit are the sins that will thrive
unchallenged in our culture. We must develop some backbone
and speak the truth in love. Here are four truths that should factor
into any discussion on this topic:

1. Everyone is born with issues. King David wrote: “Behold, I was
brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me”
(Psalm 51:5, NASB). David acknowledged that he had an inborn
sin nature. This is true for all of us!

Many “gay Christian” advocates insist that some people are born
homosexuals and therefore they have no hope of altering their
orientation. But this is a lame argument since we all are born with
a propensity toward certain sins. This is the human condition: “For
all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). Just
because you are born with an inclination toward adultery,
alcoholism, shoplifting or pride doesn’t mean you have to stay that way.

2. Christ offers forgiveness and sexual healing. The more strident
voices in the gay community hate when Christians speak about
homosexuals being healed or reformed. They insist that if you are
gay, you must stay that way. They choose to ignore the fact that
thousands of people have left homosexuality after coming to faith in Christ.

My friend Alan Chambers, president of Exodus International, came
out of the gay lifestyle many years ago and now has a great
marriage with his wife, Leslie, plus two beautiful children. The
ministry he leads has helped countless people—including many
Christian “strugglers”—find emotional freedom. Some of them
experienced same-sex feelings from childhood; others developed
these feelings because they were sexually molested or because
of dysfunction in their families.

Whatever the cause of sexual brokenness, the gospel has always
provided the solution. It was true for people in the Corinthian
church, to whom Paul wrote: “Do not be deceived; neither
fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor
homosexuals … will inherit the kingdom of God. Such were some
of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you
were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit
of our God” (1 Cor. 6:9-11, emphasis added).

3. Discipleship requires self-denial. In his announcement to his
church last week, Jim Swilley said he decided to come out as gay
because he was tired of pretending. I’ve talked with others who
told me they felt they were being “dishonest” by ignoring their gay
feelings. They said they felt free when they accepted “who they
really are” and got involved in gay relationships.

For a Christian, that’s a cop out. The essence of our walk with
Christ involves denial. Jesus said: “If anyone wishes to come after
Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me”
(Matt. 16:24). Jesus was not asking us to pretend we don’t have
problems—He calls us to bring all of those problems into His light
through repentance. But the Holy Spirit gives us the power to
deny sinful desires. That quality of self-control is a fruit of the
Spirit (see Gal. 6:22-23).

4. Homosexuality is not a protected category of sin. Many “gay
Christian” advocates insist that if you are gay, then it’s fine to go
out and have all the sex you want. They ignore biblical
commandments against homosexuality (usually by saying that
Old Testament law doesn’t apply today); meanwhile they advocate
gay marriage even though most gay men are rarely monogamous.
The message is clear: If you have same-sex desires, just go
ahead and indulge because that’s how you were created.

This is what the Bible calls licentiousness—which means “lacking
legal or moral restraints, especially sexual restraints; disregarding
rules.” Actually, the Bible lumps homosexuality in with every other
form of sexual sin—and says God will punish those who engage in
it...

Regardless of how loudly the world trumpets its hedonistic agenda—
and no matter how many backslidden preachers dance to the tune—
God has the final say on this matter.

GOD TOLD ME SOMETHING I Was NOT EXPECTING to HEAR!

GOD TOLD ME SOMETHING I Was NOT EXPECTING to HEAR!
-David Wilkerson - Oct 20, 2010.

One night during a prayer meeting, God told me something about
our church I was not expecting to hear.

The Lord whispered to me, “This church needs shock treatment!
Too many have grown satisfied and complacent. You feel safe and
secure from all the winds and waves of false doctrines sweeping
over the land—but you are not prepared for what is coming!”

Beloved, the message of having the Spirit’s witness functioning in
you is not a request—it is a matter of life and death! If you don’t
have the witness of the Holy Ghost in these last days, you’re not
going to make it! You’ll give in to the coming spirit of the Antichrist!

You need the Holy Spirit witness every day—on your job, at work,
at school. You need to rightly judge politicians and leaders so
you’ll not suddenly be sucked into the antichrist system.

This is what Jesus was trying to tell us about the foolish virgins
who ran out of oil for their lamps. They had a supply of the Holy
Ghost—but they didn’t have his witness at the final moment.

Don’t end up a foolish virgin! If you are running out of oil—trusting
your church or your pastor to keep your soul—then repent! Humble
yourself and search your heart! Cry out to God to rid your soul of
all anger and bitterness. Confess your sins and forsake them.
And depend on God once again for everything!

Get the peace of God in your heart, so you can have a Holy Ghost
witness. And ask the Father for a greater enduement of the Spirit.
Invite him to be your witness and guide in everything!

We face a cost of going all the way with Jesus, but we also will
receive a reward: It is simply the blessing of having Christ stand
with us. There are many other rewards as well (see Matthew 19:29),
but I mention this one because it is all we will ever need.

When Paul was imprisoned in Jerusalem, the whole religious
system wanted to kill him. They accused him of polluting the holy
place and preaching false doctrines. His life was in danger; even
the soldiers were “fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in
pieces” (Acts 23:10). So they took him by force and locked him
away in a castle. The next night the Lord himself spoke to Paul,
and what a word he brought: “Cheer up! There’s even more trouble
to come!”

The cost of following Christ was clear in the lives of these men of
God—and if we are going to be like our Master, then we must
embrace this cost as well. Enduring it becomes a joy because
Jesus promises to stand with us in every situation. And we can
face anything or anyone when we know the Lord stands with us.

So count the cost and know that your reward, in all things, is the
precious presence of Jesus Christ.

MESSAGE of THE THREE ANGELS

MESSAGE of THE THREE ANGELS
-Randy Ailie & Maurice Smith.

We have spoken a bit in the past about "false" angels - 'Emma'
the glittering female angel and the like. But are there true angels
bringing messages from the Lord for His people today like in the
Bible? If so, what kind of messages would they be? One thing we
see in Scripture is that when true angels came, they were "holy"
messengers from the very presence of God. People often fell on
their face because of this holy presence of the Lord. And of course
the content of the messages was biblical and holy also.

Last week someone posted an account of a real "angelic visitation"
on our website. At least it had the ring of authenticity about it.
I believe the message it contains is important enough to risk
sending it out - despite a possible "backlash". Below are two
accounts of this exact same event. I would be interested in your
responses, my friends.

(1) THREE ANGELS With THREE MESSAGES
-by Randy Ailie.

There is a huge crisis coming that is going to purge the system.
We as leaders need to recognize and address this. He is promising
to visit his church in a way we have never seen before.

A few years back I was in a meeting with other well known leaders
to pray about what the Lord wanted us to hear. 3 angels visited us.
This was witnessed by everyone there! They spoke to us concerning
this coming visitation and what we had to do to prepare for this... it
left an indelible mark on almost everyone there for years now. Most
of us walked around in stunned silence with bouts of crying for months.

They told us to shun or stay away from the big things that were
being promoted by the church. They talked to us directly about
spending quiet intimate time with Him, alone!... This intimacy is
the foundation of everything, and the hardest! The second Angel
talked to us about the Lord bringing his Holiness back to the church.
And the third talked to us about the Lord himself bringing the very
Terror of God back to the church. This has left an indelible mark
on me. The entire church as we know it in every form and manner
has departed from these thoughts...

The third angel was (I am fighting tears here) standing as a flame
of fire. Just fresh out of the very presence of God. I do not know
how to explain or even try to use words here describing this, it
seems outside of my scope of words. He was overwhelming in his
appearance. He was the one telling us about the coming of the
terror of the Lord in his visitation on His church. I guess the Lord
wanted to make a point. I try not to spend much time thinking of
this, it kind of freaks me out. It is an unspeakable flashlight into
my existence and leaves me in a true state of awe in every sense
of the word. My perception of who God is has now and forever
been unalterably changed. Especially by this one.

(2) "THE MEETING" - Published May 2nd, 2007
-by Maurice Smith.

The following took place at a recent house church gathering... I will
only say that I know and trust the people involved, people not given
to "pushing the envelope" or "flights of fancy". The meeting lasted
approximately four hours. What I am about to relate began roughly
an hour into the gathering. According to half of the people who were
present and actually witnessed this, three angels appeared, each
bearing a specific message.

The First Angel.
According to those present who witnessed this, the first angel was
clothed in crimson and purple and had a regal nature about him.
His message, as recorded by one person present, was as follows:

"This is what the spirit has to say to the 1st Church: Listen! The
1st angel of the church first established in the Lord says this.
Repent, for my heart is broken, for I have broken the staff of
correction over the backs of my sheep who long for different
pastures and whose heart is fat on that which is not holy, for I will
now let them pursue their own lusts and (I will now) stand out of
the way!"

The Second Angel.
According to those who witnessed this, the second angel was
clothed humbly and "non-descriptly" with simple robes. His
message was as follows:

"The 2nd angel has to say in a still small voice, be quiet, for only
those who seek to drink from the still small brook and who are not
afraid of persecution, who love the Lord more than life and thirst
not for the glory and the big things that profit only the flesh, who
hunger for intimacy, shall enter in! For in such is true power found -
in the quiet clearings where the River of God’s brook quietly
murmurs shall peace and purpose be found. Clothe yourselves
in humility, for I shall be found there in peace and tranquility!"

The Third Angel.

"When the 3rd angel approached me I trembled in fear (!) for he is
an all consuming fire. His eyes are ablaze with God’s glory and
his robes are a burning furnace - for he is fresh from the Lord’s
Presence, shrouded with His glory and holiness! And his presence
is a terrible thing, for he has to say:
‘Go tell my people to Repent, for they have lost their fear of the
Lord, they no longer desire to hear what He truly has to say (It will
cost you everything!). Holiness - Holiness - Holiness. Be Holy, for
I am holy! Tremble in fear for I am coming!’"

The Meaning

The people involved in this meeting/visitation were deeply affected
both then and for several days afterwards... One of them called me
on the verge of tears, "I’ve been pondering this all day. Maurice,
what does this mean?" Good question. I believe it means several
things, and I want to try and summarize what I think is happening...

God is still calling His people to repentance (two of the three angelic
messages contained exhortations to repent)... but they have
resisted the "staff of correction" and so He is preparing to send
them one of the worst forms of judgment; He is going to stand
aside and let them have their own way: "I will now let them pursue
their own lusts and (I will now) stand out of the way!" It is a terrible
day when God gives us over to the lusts and desires of our own heart...

We are entering a season of divine visitation and God is driving a
stake in the ground (one of those "Remember this day!" moments).
He is calling His Church back to repentance, to intimacy and to
holiness. These three messages are not new. We’ve heard them
before... repentance, intimacy and holiness.

PICTURES of THE QUAKE

PICTURES of THE QUAKE
-Andrew Strom.

In my first few nights here in Christchurch there were several big
aftershocks of Richter 4.5 or more. Anything less and we tend
not to notice - but those ones can wake you out of a sound sleep.
Remarkably though, you would never know that Christchurch had
been through a worse quake than Haiti. There is damage (as you
will see in the photos) - particularly to many older church buildings
and so-on. But much of the city is recovering with only minor
disruption. Many people are quite traumatized, however. They
will not get over this in a hurry.

Unlike Katrina there is seemingly not much left for teams of
volunteers to do. Much of the "grunt" work is already done. Instead
we feel led to reach out in more SPIRITUAL ways this time - to
a deeply affected population - with open-air worship events and
so-on. Please pray with us for a true "Street Revival", my friends.

The fact that so many old - and even newer - church buildings and
cathedrals have been so damaged and forcibly abandoned, has
really been speaking to me. I believe God is showing that the time
has come where we really must begin to call the true church OUT
of her enclosing walls and into the Open where a lost and dying
world awaits. We were never supposed to allow the Bride of Christ
to be "imprisoned" away from the very world she is called to reach.
This whole thing has emboldened me to preach again things I have
long laid aside - that Christ is calling His true church out of her
"cathedrals" - out where she is meant to be. It is high time we
abandoned our gilded cages - and all the "junk" that goes with
them - and got back to the ways of the early church.

"Street Revival" and the leaving behind of our man-made 'traditions'
are becoming an emphasis for me once again. We need to let the
"SHAKING of CHRISTCHURCH" speak loudly to us all. What is
God trying to say?

You can see some pictures of the quake aftermath taken by Noah
and Kate Cremisino at our website below. Please take the time
to comment if you can. Here is the link-

"THE BRIDE Will LEAVE CHRISTENDOM"

"THE BRIDE Will LEAVE CHRISTENDOM"
-Vision by Wayne Thomas.

The following vision is probably one of the most well-known that has
ever come out of my home nation of New Zealand. It is a key vision
that has been acknowledged and read around the world. This vision
was given to Wayne Thomas late in 1993. He told me that it was
probably the most powerful he had ever seen.

VISION of THE BRIDE LEAVING CHRISTENDOM
-Wayne Thomas.

Basically, it was a traditional wedding scene. The radiantly beautiful
Bride had just stepped out of the Cathedral and was standing on the
top step, just outside. Wayne was told that the Bride was LEAVING
'CHRISTENDOM' (AND ALL THAT GOES WITH IT) FOREVER, leaving
the 'church' system behind. The Groom (who was Jesus) took her arm,
so that He could lead her down and proudly display His beautiful Bride
to all the world.

Still inside the Cathedral were all the relatives (-the various
'streams' and denominations of the church as we know it?)
Suddenly, while the Bride was still on the top step, an invisible
hand gave her a beautiful lily (which had been plucked out by the
roots). This was her bridal 'bouquet' (an "end-time" enduement?)
and for some reason it seemed to be given to her rather late. She
threw this bouquet backwards, and some of her relatives in the church,
who had been watching her with great jealousy and awe, made a grab
for the bouquet. Two of them seemed to snatch it up, but there was
a lot of squabbling and pushing amongst them - fighting to be somehow
near the Bride or to grab the bouquet. The Groom then led His Bride
down the steps and through the huge crowd of cheering people below,
who had been unable to get into the Cathedral.

In a later vision, Wayne was shown that after they had made their
way through this huge throng, the happy couple were then taken away
on their honeymoon, which was to last for a thousand years.

Wayne later made the following comments about this vision:
"The Lord emphasized these things to me:- That the Bride is so
in love with the Groom - and the fact that she is pure and holy, and
the problems of life are far behind her in this time frame. The crowds
outside see this intimate love between the two, and that no burden in
life stops her from expressing this love. She leaves the guests behind
to squabble over the bouquet, and her desire to share this love with
the crowd outside is very evident.

"The fighting wedding guests are those within the church who in their
hearts are ambitious for titles to impress the body and are caught
up seeking the gifts (bouquet anointings) and not the giver. They are
involved in grand schemes and politics within the church - and they
love 'comfort'. They are those who get close to the Truth but do not
want to live the truth.

"The Bride - leaving the guests behind - is made up of Christians
seeking truth in Jesus alone, no matter the cost, leaving compromise
behind and seeking Jesus first before the praises of men."

ANDREW AGAIN: There are some quite shocking implications
to this vision, but it lines up with so much that God has spoken
along similar lines in recent years - ie. GREAT REFORMATION -
not just Revival. What are we to make of this - that the BRIDE Will
LEAVE the "CHURCH SYSTEM" FOREVER??

Does it line up with Scripture? Does it make sense? Is it possible?

The Book of Acts Revival, the Wesley and Whitefield Revivals, the
Cane Ridge Revival, the Early Salvation Army Revivals, and of course
Jesus' own ministry in the first place - these were all massive
"outdoor" moves of God. Could it be that they are pointing the way
to what we are about to witness in our own generation?

The FATAL COMPROMISE

The FATAL COMPROMISE
-Rick Furmanek.

Is Following Hard Really Worth All the Opposition?

If you follow Jesus for any length of time... and you pursue that
relationship seriously... the Lord will eventually confront you will
a choice... a choice of obedience... a choice of loyalty. This is
part and parcel of what the Bible describes as counting the cost
of following him. Yes, there is a cost involved... on both sides of
the fence. Don't let anyone try to convince you otherwise... and
sometimes the cost is quite heavy.

Being confronted with a choice to unswervingly obey, or ignore the
opportunity for obedience and simply compromise, is not an easy
place to find yourself in... for, if we choose to compromise...
eventually we must make our way back to the Lord's throne and
openly confess our wrongdoing. It is no simple matter to approach
him with hat in hand knowing you must tell him why you did what
you did in your moment of disobedience (not to mention carrying
the Spirit of Christ that resides in you right into your disobedience)...
realizing you have no plausible defense nor excuse for your
actions/decisions as you stand before His perfection. God is
merciful to the nth degree... but He will not be toyed with nor His
grace taken advantage of nor presumed upon.

Mind you, it's quite easy to compromise at first . . . and can even
be seen as a little fun . . . as long as the price tag for the
compromise can be removed for the moment.

Remember what the writer of Hebrews says . . .

"By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the
son of Pharaoh's daughter, */choosing rather to be mistreated with
the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin/*. He
considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the
treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward."

Compromise is serious business. It happens all the time... but it
shouldn't. Whether we disobey with the cost hidden or the price
tag in full view, the consequences will be very real... and very
experienced.

But note here also, as clearly described in the story of Moses,
there is another side to this cost thing... not only is there a cost
for compromise... that you must eventually do right by your God...
but there is also a price tag for obedience. Moses chose to be
abused, misunderstood, and ill thought of, opting to identify with
the suffering people of God, rather than go the easy road of
self-serving pleasure. He left riches, education and a long family
heritage in order to follow God... for he had an understanding of
the big picture and what mattered most.

From this example of Moses, we see that there is a cost involved
in following.

Jesus' own words affirm this again and again. In fact, he
challenged, and even expected us to count the cost before we
bend a knee to him. If the hearer didn't think the cost is worth it...
Jesus was willing to let them go their own way. And while he is
always willing to receive them back... he doesn't expect a person
to do it blindly or without understanding what is involved and what
is required in following him.

Remember the Disciples who left behind family, friends, jobs and
homes for the sake of the Kingdom? I'm sure that was not easy to
do... but they counted the cost and did it anyway... and most
likely made the hard choice in the face of some pretty serious opposition.

I'm going to step out and make an assumption here... I'm going to
assume that you have understood to some degree what I've tried
to communicate up to this point... and I'm going to assume you
understand at least the concept that there is a price tag attached
to following Christ.

That said, what might the cost of following hard after Jesus in
today's world look like? First off, if we take our responsibility
seriously and approach life with a desire to live a life for Christ
without compromise... we can rest assured that, as the Bible
promises, we will encounter opposition. To encounter no
opposition and at the same time call ourselves a Christian should
be cause for concern, for something is not right.

Note that opposition will come in many shapes and forms... some
we won't expect... catching us completely off guard, thus testing
our obedience... and other opposition we will plainly see gathering
on the horizon, thus testing our loyalty. No matter where it comes
from, we mustn't forget this truth, following Jesus Christ
wholeheartedly will produce opposition from those around us... at
times even from those we love the most.

In recollecting this afternoon from some recent experiences, I've
come up with... what I think are key areas from which you can
pretty much expect opposition for carrying the name of Jesus with
you in an uncompromising way.

Here they are:

-* Your mere presence may make others uncomfortable. *

Therefore, because of this, some are likely to try to avoid you. The
Truth shown forth in the Light is something that this world would
prefer not to experience. Light reveals those secrets we have
spent tireless years trying to keep tucked away in a dark corner.
Expect that your desire to walk in the Light... to be open and
transparent... to lead a no-compromise sort of life... will make
others uncomfortable... not intentionally, but as a natural
by-product of your taking the name of Christ with you into places
where He's not necessarily welcome... at least not the Lordship
side of Him.

-*You as a person may be seen as unkind. *

No doubt about it... we are to love... we are commanded to love...
we are told that without love our message is meaningless and
worthless... we are told that our love is the telltale sign of our
following Jesus... but how love is defined and fleshed out today is
so different from the biblical description of love. We mustn't let
that important point... the change in the connotation of the word,
love, trip us up in our Christian expression of love.

What you will find today is that those who watch you, listen to
you and interact with you as you follow Christ... are likely to
conclude that you are quite intolerant and inconsiderate of others.
People today... even a lot of religious folk... really do have a
problem with Jesus being the only way and the necessity of dying
to self and forsaking all in order to have real life.

Fellow-follower, I don't care how you package it, you can drape
love all over it... but try rebuking, correcting, admonishing... again
in love... and the likely reaction you'll get from the 21st century
man... and lots of religious folk... is that you are just not a very
nice person. Again, with the concept of love being so
misunderstood today and often defined as absolute toleration of
everyone and every belief surrounding you... we must be patient
and make a concerted effort to attach a proper definition to the
word love for our listeners and observers to grasp and hold on to,
and then demonstrate it before them as a witness for our Lord.

That in itself might be the greatest act of kindness we can show
them. And that act of kindness is not random... no, it's very intentional.

This week has been tough. I've experienced a few of these very
things in my own life. Is it rewarding being misunderstood?
Definitely not. Am I glad I was rejected? Not on your life. Would I
prefer not to travel this route? You bet. But it really does come
down to this simple statement that as a follower of Jesus I must
confess again and again...

/... yet not my will, but Yours be done. /

Stay strong in Him... take courage... our redemption is drawing near.

... "Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to
abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such
good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of
doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on
the day he visits us."

HOW to STAND UP and FIGHT!

HOW to STAND UP and FIGHT!
-David Wilkerson.

With all the talk going on in the church about spiritual warfare,
Christians still have not learned how to stand up to the enemy.
We are pushovers for the devil!

I don’t believe every misfortune that befalls a Christian comes from
the devil. We wrongly blame him for a lot of our own carelessness,
disobedience and laziness.

It’s easy to blame the devil for our foolishness. That way, we don’t
have to deal with it. But there is a real devil present in the world
today—and he is busy at work!

Let me tell you something of Satan’s strategy. If he cannot pull the
Almighty out of his throne, he will try to tear God’s image out of
you! He wants to turn worshippers into murmurers and blasphemers.

Satan cannot attack you at will. God has put a wall of fire around
each of his children, and Satan cannot go beyond that wall without
God’s permission.

Satan cannot read a Christian’s mind. Some people are afraid to pray
because they think the devil eavesdrops on them! Others think the
devil can read their every thought. Not so! Only God is omnipresent
and omniscient.

Scripture commands us to stand up, be strong and do battle against
the flesh and the devil: “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you
like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). “Brethren, be strong in
the Lord, and in the power of his might” (Ephesians 6:10).

You have to become fed up with being held down by the devil—
living low, depressed, joyless, empty, harassed!

The book of Judges tells us, “And the children of Israel did evil in
the sight of the Lord: and the Lord delivered them into the hand of
Midian seven years. And the hand of Midian prevailed against
Israel” (Judges 6:1–2).

The Israelites were at their lowest point ever. They were driven to
living in dark caves and damp dens, starving, scared and helpless.
Then something happened. It started with Gideon, and it spread
throughout the whole camp: Israel got sick and tired of hiding in
those dark caves!

Gideon said to himself, “How long should we put up with this?
They go through our land with no opposition. Nobody stands up
and does anything about it! We’re told we have a God who moved
for our fathers. But look at us now—we are stripped, helpless.
We live in constant fear!”

Something rose up within Gideon. And he said just what God was
waiting to hear: “This has gone far enough! We serve a mighty,
victorious God. Why do we go on, day after day, taking this abuse?”

God will not do anything until you are thoroughly disgusted—until
you are sick and tired of being sick and tired.

You have to do as Gideon did—cry out to the Lord! We serve the
same God that Israel did. If he heard Israel’s cry in their idolatry,
he will hear you—in your sincerity.

The Final Prophet: One New Man!

The Final Prophet: One New Man! by Robert Ricciardelli
By now most of us realize that we live in times of both great challenges, and Kingdom advancement. I have never been pregnant, (thankfully), but I hear that labor pains feel a lot like dying. Yet it is not death that is coming forth, but new life. For many of us, we look at our nation and the world around us, and it looks like death to so much of what we once thought of as foundations. I believe it is birth pains of life, birth pains of a Kingdom desiring to heal creation. Father is using the tough seasons to grow us up, and to wake us up to His glory and His plans for all of humanity.

Romans 18-25
This is why I do not think there is any comparison between the present hard times and the coming good times. The created world itself can hardly wait for what is coming next. Everything in creation is being more or less held back. God reins it in until both creation and all the creatures are ready and can be released at the same moment into the glorious times ahead. Meanwhile, the joyful anticipation deepens.

All around us we observe a pregnant creation. The difficult times of pain throughout the world are simply birth pangs. But it is not only around us, but also within us. The Spirit of God is arousing us within and birthing destinies. These sterile and barren bodies of ours are yearning for full deliverance and the increasing manifestation of sons and daughters of His glory. That is why waiting does not diminish us any more than waiting diminishes a pregnant mother. We are enlarged in the waiting. We, of course, do not see fully what is enlarging in us. But the longer we wait, the larger we become, and the more joyful our expectancy.

These challenging seasons are part of Father's divine maturation process for us. They are maturing us into His fullness, but we must be aware, so that we do not get stuck in perpetual infancy. Religion has a way of comforting rather than truly demanding change within each of us. Through outward activities and rituals, we can go through the motion without dealing with the turmoil in our hearts. Going to heaven is not a goal, but our destiny when we die. Our goal is becoming sons and daughters of the Living God fully formed into the image of Christ, the first born of all creation. He was the first born, and we are to be the next born in which the Father can say, "These are my beloved children, in whom I am well pleased."

Progressive Transitions
Here are five significant people in biblical history that brought forth God's thoughts and plans for creation.

1. Adam
2. Abraham
3. Moses
4. David
5. Jesus

Each of the first four men carried the mandates and progression of God's promises and will upon the earth. They prepared the way for Jesus to usher in Father's Kingdom, while offering humanity the chance - through faith, to once again have relationship with God for all eternity. Jesus went beyond the old covenant and offered a new and better covenant for both Jew and Gentile. The earth will never have need for another significant man because Jesus has already fulfilled all, and established our present and future through ONE NEW MAN!

The Final Priest, King, and Prophet is "Each and All of US"!
God's will going forward has been established and will remain unchanged until the fullness of His Kingdom is established on earth as it is in heaven. He chose us, and provided the way through Christ to live and move, and have His being in us and through us. We are His ambassadors to carry His love, His nature, and the gospel of His present and ever approaching Kingdom. Jesus told us that the The Kingdom of God is within us and we can trust His presence to accomplish the changing of atmosphere and hearts wherever we go.

As the corporate "One New Man" we see now why Jesus prayed so fervently for us to be one with Him, the Father, and each other. We are the message to the world; we are the ambassadors of His eternal Kingdom that presents the way, the truth, and the life - Christ Himself to the world. He has allowed for and caused many challenges to grow us up in order for us to live a life that is fully pleasing to Him while bringing forth His glory.

Rise up beloved of God, you are the chosen and you are worthy in Christ to will and to do all to the glory of God. Challenges and changes are here to stay, and the wheat and the tares will continue to grow until finally the earth is filled with the knowledge of His glory like the waters cover the sea. Be of good cheer, nothing can separate you from his love as He uses every aspect of life to train and equip you. It may not always look or feel like life, but remember that ALL THINGS work together for good. Do not be discouraged and do not quit. Your destiny is assured in Him.

BEYOND REVOLUTION - Going Deeper

NOTE: Darren Smith runs a ministry to the homeless in Texas.

BEYOND REVOLUTION - Going Deeper
-by Darren Smith.

A while back I sent out a word called the Five Points of Revolution.
We have had a lot of responses and I feel its time to go a little
deeper in this word. I believe that we are all being called into this
deeper walk of faith and must be challenged to draw closer to the
Lord. I will be taking each of the five points and teaching more on
each one in this series. The first one we will look at, is the return
to the true faith, that I feel we have lost in the modern church.

1) Return to the true faith: When you look around at all the
teaching in the modern church, how much true faith can you find?
... Before we tackle being born again, we must go further back to
get clear on what was the reason for Christ going to the Cross,
which, I might add, is missing from most modern teaching. Why
did Christ have to die on the Cross? The most common answer
I get when I ask people is to "save us." That brings about the
question- What is He saving us from? When this question is
asked most people reply from hell or the devil, which is not true
at all! Jesus came to save us from the wrath of God!! But wait a
minute, isn't God loving and kind and full of grace and mercy?
Yes, that is why He sent Jesus to take the full cup of Gods' wrath
for man's sin. Without His blood covering you, God's wrath will
pour out on you!

It's simply not popular. We must not look for popularity, but hold
onto truth. One day we will stand before God and give an account
for our life and being popular will mean nothing on that day. I believe
that the reason most do not share their faith is that they are not
sure what their faith is! If all you know is to tell people to ask Jesus
into your heart and you will be saved, then you don't have the true
faith and can't share true salvation. There is nowhere in the Bible
that says to invite Christ into your heart and you will be saved. This
is a man-made doctrine that will not stand, a convenient message
designed to make men feel better about themselves.

There is a group that ministers alongside us every Saturday that
always tells the people in the street to ask Jesus into their heart
and they will be saved, and every Saturday the same people raise
their hand and invite Jesus into their heart. Minutes later they are
right back on the streets doing the same thing they were a few
minutes earlier, no change and worse off than they were. Why?
Because they are being misled by a false doctrine that requires
nothing other than raising their hand to invite Jesus in to their heart.

On the other hand, we preach that Jesus came to take their
punishment and to withstand the wrath of God for mans' sins and
that to be saved you must be born again. We spend a great deal
of time showing them that God loves them, but never compromise
the true Gospel. Which is easier for them to believe, that you
must believe, repent, confess and be baptized; or to raise your
hand and invite Jesus into your heart? Which is easier, teaching
that you must die to yourself to live for Christ, or that Jesus wants
to give you all your heart's desires?

So many become hardened after a while of inviting Jesus into their
heart and seeing no results that they kindle anger and disbelief
against God. I've had guys tell me that they had been saved many
times but nothing happened in their life and now they don't believe.
This is what false teaching does, it turns hearts cold to the truth.
We must return to the Gospel and not water it down to make it
more appealing to the flesh. The preaching of the Cross is the
Power of God and releases the supernatural in peoples' lives!

When you preach the Gospel, you see salvation and healing,
not man-made shows. It's the power of God unto Salvation, why
water it down? This world doesn't need to feel better about itself,
it needs to see the state it's truly in before the Holy God of the
Universe - and repent and bow down to the Lord of Lords and King
of Kings. We must teach the true faith which is loving God and
loving your neighbor which brings about Kingdom change in this
earth!

True Faith isn't going to a religious service a couple times a week
and singing a few songs and hearing a little preaching. True faith
is about being light in this fallen world. Light that shows men Christ,
the only hope of redemption. You won't find that in a meeting that
is all about having your best life now. You only find that by living
for Christ and not yourself.

Most churches today are by design self-serving instead of God-
serving, that's why they have no power. Where the Gospel is
absent, so is the power of God! Jesus not only preached the
Gospel but lived it as an example for us to follow. We must live
the Gospel as well. As the Church, we are to build relationships
with God and with each other. A selfless relationship always
looking to lift up the Lord and blessing others. Instead, most
relationships today are selfish and only look for how serving can
benefit them. Be not fooled brothers, God will judge this. His
eye is not missing how many people are in need and the modern
church pours into itself instead of helping.

The American gospel, which is no gospel at all, will be judged and
will be found guilty as well as all those who partake in it. We must
warn people of the wrath that is upon us for we have all been guilty.
This is why returning to the true Faith is so important. So what
must we do?

2 Corinthians 13:5 - "Examine yourself to see if you are in the
faith: test yourself." ...The first thing we should do is examine
ourselves, test ourselves to see if Christ is in us. Do I know the
true Gospel? Have I been born again? Can I see Christ in my life?
Do I really Love God? Do I really love my neighbor? All of these
are valid starting points to begin this journey. If you ask God to
show you, I promise that HE will.

I want to go on a little further, even though I will not be able to get
through this point with one email. This point is, am I willing to
forsake myself and follow Him? Luke 9 :57-62 - please read this
very closely - it's just one place where Jesus tells us to forsake and
follow. Jesus said if anyone comes after me, he must lay down his
life and pick up his cross and follow me. Have you laid down your
life or are you holding onto it trying to follow Jesus? Is Christ evident
in your life as a present reality or just a religious theory you kick
around from time to time? Does self consume your life or Christ?
Is love your lifestyle or pride? All these and much more must be
opened up to truly examine ourselves to see if we are truly in the
faith. I pray you will take this test with me and we will draw closer
to God.

"BACKward CHRISTIAN SOLDIERS"

NOTE: An ironic poem (or hymn) is below. Quite thought-provoking.

-by George Verwer.

Backward Christian soldiers,
Fleeing from the fight,
With the cross of Jesus,
Nearly out of sight.
Christ our rightful master
Stands against the foe
Onward into battle, we
seem afraid to go.

Chorus:
Backward Christian soldiers,
Fleeing from the fight,
With the cross of Jesus,
Nearly out of sight.

Like a mighty tortoise
Moves the church of God.
Brothers we are treading,
Where we've often trod.
We are much divided,
Many bodies we,
Having different doctrines, but
Not much charity.

Crowns and thrones may perish,
Kingdoms rise and wane,
But the cross of Jesus
Hidden does remain.
Gates of hell should never
'gainst the Church prevail,
We have Christ's own promise, but
we think it might fail.

Sit here then ye people,
Join our sleeping throng.
Blend with ours, your voices
in a feeble song.
Blessings, ease and comfort
Ask from Christ the King,
But with our modern thinking,
We won't do a thing.

DREAM of the 2 BOATS

DREAM of the 2 BOATS
-Mario Alleckna.

Something that I take very serious is when children receive
something from the Lord. As it says in Acts and Joel, “in the last
days the children will prophesy…”.

About 6 weeks ago our daughter, who is 12 yrs old, woke up one
morning and told us about a dream she had that night. It was a
“strong” dream. One of those dreams that is so very real and vivid.
The kind that you remember clearly and in detail, and that leaves
a very strong impression. As it turns out, it was clearly a prophetic dream.

In her dream she saw two ships. But these ships were as though
they were flying through the air. The one ship, were she was on,
was a raggedy old ferry boat. Instead of seatbelts people were
strapped to their old seats with rope. There was a captain on the
ferry who was kind yet strong and firm. While telling everyone to
hang on tightly, and that the ride would be tough and not an easy
ride, he kept assuring them with a great confidence that he would
bring them safely to their destination.

The other ship was a fancy cruise ship. Both ships were going
side by side, but at a distance. She could see the people clearly
as she looked over to the cruise ship. Some of them were her
friends from church. They were not sitting in any seats or wearing
seatbelts. Instead they were dancing and laughing while on a
large party deck.

Once in a while both ships would come together, side by side,
while drifting through the air. Our daughter called over to her friends
on the cruise ship telling them that they must come over onto her
ferry boat because the party ship was the wrong ship.

But there was also a captain on the cruise ship. He had scary
eyes, and whenever our daughter would call her friends he would
look straight at her and his eyes were evil. He then would turn to
the people on his ship and say, “Don’t listen to them, they are
just jealous that you are having so much fun. You are on the right
ship where the fun is."

Then the two ships drifted apart again and she could only see the
cruise ship at a distance. When they came together again one of
her friends finally listened and jumped over onto her ferry boat.
After they had drifted apart once more, the captain told everyone
on the ferry to hold on, “it’s going to get rough.” Large meteor-like
rocks came flying toward them but the captain was able to safely
dodge each and everyone.

Suddenly and without warning, the cruise ship, which was at a
distance, dropped downward and completely disappeared.

THE IDOL of SPORTS

THE IDOL of SPORTS
-extract by Chuck Baldwin.

Millions and millions of Americans (especially males) are literally
intoxicated with sports. Sports are no longer a great American
pastime; they are now a great American obsession.

Mind you, this writer has been a sports fan all of his life. I began
playing organized basketball in the fifth grade; I was on the high
school wrestling team; I played football in high school and college...

I am not talking about sports in general; I am talking about the way
many American men have allowed sports to control and dominate
their lives. With many, sports are not just a hobby; they are a
religion. I cannot count the number of conversations between men
that I overhear in restaurants, airplanes, boardrooms, and, yes,
even church houses, in which every man in the circle is literally
consumed with all sorts of sports facts, information, and opinions.
In many such discussions, these men will talk about nothing else.
To these men, there is absolutely nothing in the world more
important than the latest sports score, announcement, or trade.
NOTHING!

And there is also a very real psychological pitfall associated with
a man's intoxication with sports. I submit that an obsession with
sports gives men a false sense of masculinity and actually serves
to steal true manhood from them.

For example, it used to be when men stripped their shirts off and
painted their faces, they were heading to the battlefield to kill the
tyrant's troops. Now they are headed off to the sports coliseum
to watch a football game. A man's ego and machismo was once
used to protect his family and freedom; now it's used to tout batting
averages and box scores...

ARE You HOLDING ON... or LETTING GO?

ARE You HOLDING ON... or LETTING GO?
-by J. Lee Grady.

It's time to check your posture: Are your hands in the air? True
worship requires surrender.

Christians used to talk a lot about surrender. They called it the
consecrated life, and they sang about it in hymns such as "I
Surrender All," "Have Thine Own Way" or "Wherever He Leads,
I'll Go." These songs fueled the missionary movements of the
past.

Today? Not so much.

In many American churches, "altars" are a strange concept. They
are referred to as "stages," and they are used only for fog machines
or music performances. "Altar calls" no longer fit in the time
constraints of our trendy 80-minute services. Meanwhile, talk of
surrender has been replaced by messages about self-empowerment
and self-motivation.

The Good Life has replaced The God Life. The Path to Prosperity
has become more popular than The Calvary Road. We are more
interested in getting a breakthrough than brokenness.

Yet God is calling us back to consecration. Genuine worship,
according to Romans 12:1, involves a wholehearted abandonment
of self. Paul wrote: "Therefore I urge you, by the mercies of God,
to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to
God, which is your spiritual service of worship" (NASB).

When priests were set apart for God's service in the Old Covenant,
they were "consecrated" in a solemn ceremony. The word for
consecration in Exodus 28:41 means "to fill the hand." The word
is a picture of an empty hand receiving God's blessings and then
giving them back to the Lord in unconditional surrender.

My question to you: Are your hands open and raised to God? Or
are you making a fist? Have you given back to the Lord what He
has given you? Or are your hands tightly clenched? It might be a
good idea to examine how you are holding every aspect of your
life:

Your time. Does God have your life 24/7? Does He have your
weekends? Have you made room in your life to spend time with
Him? Or has prayer been crowded out by your favorite TV shows,
time with friends or the demands of work?

Your talents. Are you using your natural and spiritual gifts to reach
others for Christ? Or did you hide your talents, like the unwise
steward in Jesus' parable? Have you assumed that, because others
seemed more gifted, you should be a spectator while they serve?

Your money. The only way to know if you are truly surrendered to
God's will is if your wallet is open. A lack of generosity toward God's
work reveals a much deeper problem.

Your future. Are you driving your career plans—or have you allowed
God to take the steering wheel? Ambition can take you a long way
— but it must be yielded to His will or it will lead to tragedy. You
must agree with what Jesus prayed at Gethsemane: "Not my will,
but Yours be done" (Luke 22:42).

Your relationships. Do you allow friends, or romantic relationships,
to lead you away from purity, integrity and spiritual faithfulness?
The Bible says friendship with the world is hostility toward God
(James 4:4). As painful as it may be, true surrender will involve
cutting some ties.

Your sexuality. Many Christians believe they can be faithful
believers while practicing immorality. Don't buy that lie. Living
the consecrated life means repenting of all known sin daily—and
fleeing from fornication, adultery, pornography and all forms of lust.

Your children. While we have been commanded to raise our kids
for God, we also must entrust them to His care. After all, they are
really His children, not ours. Once you've done your part, give them
back to Him.

This week my youngest daughter—our so-called "baby"—is
graduating from high school and headed to college in Georgia.
Meanwhile my third daughter is leaving this week to minister on
a foreign mission field for two months—in a place where women
are not exactly safe or respected. I've had to consciously put my
girls on the altar whenever I've doubted that God will take care of
them.

It's one thing to give your own life to Christ. It's another thing to
surrender those you love to His will and purpose. It requires a
whole new level of trust. But it is the path that Abraham, the father
of our faith, was required to walk when he put his son Isaac on the
altar.

True faith always involves gut-wrenching surrender. I urge you to
take the right posture: Get your hands open, lift them up to heaven
and say with all your heart: "Lord, I'm all yours."

Sleeping Through a Revolution

Sleeping Through a Revolution by James Ryle
“Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” (Ephesians 5:14).

Epic change is in the air while many have dozed off, seemingly oblivious to God . Perhaps we may be like Peter, James and John when the Lord invited them to a private prayer meeting on top of a mountain.

By the time Peter, James and John made the climb, they were so tired that they fell asleep while Jesus was praying. And as they were sleeping, two other invited guests arrived – Moses, and the Prophet Elijah! Jesus was delighted to see them, and they began talking together about the Kingdom of God and the coming Age of Glory.

At that moment, Jesus began to shine brighter than the noon day sun – so bright, in fact, that it woke Peter up. The Bible then tells us, “Peter and the other two disciples had been sound asleep. All at once they woke up and saw how glorious Jesus was” (Luke 9:32, Century English Version).

Hmmm. “They woke up and saw how glorious Jesus was” — Don’t you think it’s time for that to happen again?

Do you remember reading the story of Rip Van Winkle when you were a kid? I do, but the funny thing is I can’t remember what was the point of the story. I mean, I know it’s about a guy who fell asleep for a really long time – but beyond that I couldn’t recall anything else. So I decided to read it again, and here’s what I discovered.

When Rip Van Winkle went to sleep, King George of England was the recognized monarch who ruled over the American colonies. Twenty years later when Rip woke up, George Washington was the President of the United States.

Rip Van Winkle had slept through a Revolution!

Peter, James and John were essentially doing the same thing on top that sacred mountain of transfiguration. And, as the evidence seems to suggest, much of the church today is in the exact same condition – sleeping through a revolution.

“Awake, you who sleep, arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.”

Over a hundred years ago Charles Spurgeon wrote, “A slumbering church compels Satan to make it his chief business to rock the cradle, hush all noise, and drive away even a fly lest it light upon the sleeper’s face. His great dread is that this church might rouse itself from her dreamy repose.”

Indeed.

We would do well in these lazy days to take heed to the words of the apostle Paul. “Make sure,” he wrote, “that you don’t get so absorbed and exhausted in taking care of all your day-by-day obligations that you lose track of the time and doze off, oblivious to God” (Romans 13:11, The Message).

Odd, don’t you think, that on the one hand we can be so busy about this and that – that we completely doze off and miss the very presence and work of God happening all around us? We can be like Jacob who, waking from his sleep, said, “Ah, surely the Lord was in this place and I knew it not!” (see Gen.28:16).

A few years ago I was in Lincoln, Nebraska, and caught sight of a most unusual spectacle. An ambitious truck driver had attempted to move a large, historic church building along highway 103 with his woefully undersized rig. He possibly could have made it, but somewhere along the route he fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the road. When the rig listed to the right, the church slid off the truck and ended up stuck in the mud in the ditch.

The sight of this massive historic church building stuck in the mud in a ditch is disturbingly prophetic. Traffic was backed up for miles in both directions as gawkers came out in droves to see the strange sight. I can’t help but wonder how many churches in America are in just such a predicament today?

Somebody fell asleep at the wheel – and the church is stuck in the mud. And the watching World, far from being impressed with our theatrics and swollen words, merely drives by at a snail’s pace taking in the view and cracking a few worn out jokes.

We desperately need an Awakening – especially among those who serve as the leaders in Faith. For if they are indeed “asleep at the wheel” we are not only poised for ridicule – but quite possibly disaster. If the blind can lead the blind into a ditch, where will we end up if we follow sleeping leaders?

Awakening is a theme often repeated in scripture. “Awake! Awake! Put on your strength, O Zion!” Isaiah cried. “Awake to righteousness, and do not sin,” Paul said to the Corinthians. He put it this way when he wrote to the church in Ephesus – “Wake up from your sleep, Climb out of your coffins; Christ will show you the light!” (Ephesians 5:14, The Message).

A great example of this very thing is Lazarus, the friend of Jesus.

When the disciples heard the news that Lazarus had died, Jesus said, “Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up” (John 11:11). Arriving at the tomb, Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” Lazarus came out of the crypt fully alive, but was still wrapped up like a mummy. Jesus said to those standing by, “Loose him, and let him go.” (see John 11:43-44).

The story of Lazarus shows us three things Jesus does to awaken a sleeping Church, and rouse a slumbering giant.

* First, He gives us the ability to hear His voice — “Lazarus!” Just days before this miracle took place Jesus had said, “The hour is coming when those who are in the graves will hear the voice of the Son of God, and will live.” Lazarus heard His voice and came to life — so can you and I.

* Second, Jesus gives us the power to become what He has called us to be — “Come forth!” When Jesus called Lazarus by name, that awakened him; when He told Lazarus to come forth from the tomb, that empowered him. The Lord never commands us do something that He does not empower us to do. What has He commanded you to do?

* And third, Jesus gives us the help we need to be completely liberated from the effects and trappings of a failed life — “Loose him, and let him go!” Jesus spoke these words to those standing by, and He does the same for us.

There are key people – close friends and valued associates whom the Lord has put in our lives to help us get out of our grave clothes and into a new wardrobe. If we will cooperate with the process, our lives will truly be transformed. If we are willing for it to happen. That’s the key.

The HOLINESS PREACHER

The HOLINESS PREACHER
by Bill Harper.

The Holiness preacher, a Godly man,
was seen riding his circuit with Bible in hand.
He rode in sunshine and he rode in rain,
he rode when he felt good, and he rode in pain...

Often he fasted, God’s will to achieve,
striving for perfection, lest the Spirit he’d grieve.
Often his congregation numbered just a few.
He preached without compromise and he helped them pray through...

He preached against demon rum and the dance.
He spoke against painted up women and games of chance.
The Holiness preacher, a Godly man,
kept up with the times, God’s kingdom to expand...

Few people attended in fancy clothes.
They didn’t come to look at others, down their nose.
As he entered into this modern age
he preached against radio as though in a rage.

Avoid the theater also he’d say.
Avoid worldliness, walk the strait narrow way.
When moving pictures made their debut
he preached against this devil’s invention so new.

Movies corrupted our morals said he,
the things they portrayed weren’t fit for Christians to see.
During the depression he bought a tent,
in which to hold meetings, telling men to repent...

ANDREW AGAIN: The poem about “The Holiness Preacher” above
is certainly well-done. But can I just say this, my friends-
The old-time “Holiness” movement that concerned itself with
“dancing” and “bobbed hair” and ‘no makeup for women’, etc, is
NOT where I am coming from with this TV thing.

A lot of those concerns were about “outward” things – and easily
descended into legalism. I truly believe that TV is gaining access
to the “heart” of man – and that is my main concern. It slowly and
gradually fills people’s minds and lives with complete junk.

To be frank with you, I don’t care about “bobbed hair” and I have
been known to dance enthusiastically with my wife at weddings,
etc. - and also to take her out to the Cinema on occasion. Does
that make me “unholy”? Is that what we think "holiness" is about?
Is it all about these 'outward' things?

I have to confess to you - when I first read the poem about the
"Holiness preacher" the only thing that sprang to my mind was
that it was not real Holiness - but rather "Legalism" that this man
represented. And yes - this became a huge problem in the old
Holiness circles. You had to have your hair the "right" way and
your dress the "right" way and never attend movies or dances
and on and on.

The only real Holiness I am interested in preaching is Holiness of
the HEART. If our focus is on mere "outward" things then all we
will get from our preaching is a bunch of 'Legalists' who do and say
all the "right" things - but their hearts are proud and self-righteous.

I greatly fear that many "holiness" circles today have the same
legalistic tendencies. It is all about the "right" music styles and
head coverings and long dresses - and the 'Heart' is forgotten in
the rush to get all these "outward" things right. This is no Holiness
at all. God is after a pure heart. He wants the INSIDE of the cup
to be cleaned - rather than all this focus on the 'outside'.

We need to apply this Scripture - "To the pure all things are pure."
This is a place of tremendous freedom - but only if we truly have
a pure heart.

Can we please learn the difference between Holiness and Legalism,
my friends, so this generation does not repeat many of the same
errors as our 'Holiness' forefathers?

Having a Distinctive Voice

Having a Distinctive Voice

by T. Austin-Sparks

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (Revelation 3:22).

A striking feature of our time is that so few of the voices have a distinctive message. There is a painful lack of a clear word of authority for the times... Why is it so? May it not be that so many who might have this ministry have become so much a part of a system? A system which puts preachers so much upon a professional basis, the effect of which is to make preaching a matter of demand and supply; of providing for the established religious order and programme? Not only in the matter of preaching, but in the whole organization and activity of "Christianity" as we have it in the systematized form today.

Speak The Word of The Lord

There is not the freedom and detachment for speaking ONLY when "the burden of the word of the Lord" is upon the prophet, or when he could say, "The hand of the Lord was upon me." The present order requires a man to speak every so often; hence he must get something, and this necessity means either that God must be offered our programme and asked to meet it (which He will not do) or the preacher must make something for the constantly recurring occasion. This is a pernicious system and it opens the door to any number of dangerous and baneful intrusions of what is of man and not of God. The most serious aspect of this way of things is that it results in voices, voices, voices, a confusion of voices, but not the specific voice with the specific utterance of God for the time...

Here we have the necessity for an awakening to what God has to say. In the Revelation this is "He that hath an ear, let him hear," and in the case of Laodicea - which represents the end - it is "I counsel thee to buy of me eyesalve that thou mayest see." "And I turned to see the voice that spake with me," said John. God is speaking, He has something to say, but there must be "a Spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your heart being enlightened."

Sharp or Dull Blades?

Sharp or Dull Blades?

by Vince Gibson

Spring is quickly approaching, so I have begun to do some mower maintenance this week. I visited the local John Deere store and picked up a new filter and some oil, while there I decided to check on a couple of new blades. The blades turned out to be well priced so I bought them.

I changed the oil and filter and decided to go to work pulling off the old blades. I was a little nervous, as I am not very mechanically inclined, but much to my surprise I got them changed out quickly. As I looked closely at the old blades I realized that for all of last summer I was literally beating the grass into submission. Both of the old blades I removed were less sharp than a butter knife! The edges were literally rounded on each end!

I cranked up the mower and took it for a quick test over some grass and I could tell immediately that the mower was cutting the grass so much easier than before.

A little later in the yard, as I was picking up sticks and branches, the Lord began to speak to me about my own sharpness. I began to examine my own life and how many times I am "beating" the air out of my own dullness! We get so familiar with our own gifting and talent that we go into auto pilot and "beat" at the air because it's what we "know how to do." Just like the mower we get results but have to work double hard and don't get the most complete results intended.

So what keeps our blades sharpened? Intimacy! Not intimacy to gain anointing, intimacy to move in close to Father out of a pure heart of love, to seek Him, to know Him! Then He can sharpen us and use us to the "best" of His ability! True ministry comes from overflow, and you only receive overflow after you've been on the grinder for a while.

Gifting and talent can only "beat" the atmosphere into submission for so long, we must learn how to sharpen ourselves so God can cut through, down, and around anything he chooses, in us, and through us.

I don't want to operate out of inner knowledge, I want to operate in the anointing, in the sharpness of Father. Many people can craft words and actions and things may appear sharp, but when you get close the blades are dull!

Lord we repent for leaning on our gifting and our talents to get us through, we draw close again as laid down lovers! Use your tools to sharpen dull edges till every word and every action is coming straight from Heaven and landing here on earth!

I am looking forward to new mowing experience here in the next couple of weeks, both in my natural and supernatural yard!

CONTAGION - What CONTAGION??

CONTAGION - What CONTAGION??
-by Andrew Strom.

The US Stockmarket was down over 200 points today. Why?
Because of the "contagion" occurring in Europe. Most of you will
have heard in the last two weeks of the Greek Debt crisis. Well -
it is spreading. Even though there is claimed to be a "bailout"
for Greece in the works, the markets are taking their own action,
and seemingly mass 'contagion' into other nations is underway.
The nations most at risk are Portugal - then Spain - then Ireland,
Italy and maybe U.K. Nobody knows how bad it will get. But it
is already pretty bad.

For months we have stated that "another wave down" is coming
in the economy. Could this be the cause? Clearly - yes. Or perhaps
it is something else. Certainly, this one is big enough to do it.

Today, S & P cut Greece's debt ratings to "junk" status and also
downgraded its rating on Portugal's debt by two notches. This
makes it much harder for them to borrow. Already this crisis grows
worse every day. Some analysts even say it could break up the
Eurozone. Certainly, "contagion" from country to country to
country is already underway.

As one equity strategist told MarketWatch today, "This is a
Western European country that has the euro imploding before our
eyes. If you don't think that has a ripple effect, you belong in the
summer of '07 again."

The Telegraph's International Business Editor wrote today: "The
European Central Bank may soon have to invoke emergency
powers to prevent the disintegration of Southern European bond
markets, with ominous signs of investor flight from Spain and Italy."

Today, yields on 10-year Greek bonds spiked up to a record 9.73pc.
Yields on 10-year Portuguese bonds spiked 48 basis points to
5.67pc, replicating the pattern seen in the onset of the Greek crisis.

Jacques Cailloux, chief Europe economist at the Royal bank of
Scotland told the Telegraph: “We have gone past the point of no
return: there is a complete loss of confidence. The bond markets
are in disintegration and it is getting worse every day."

“They may have to act as contagion spreads to larger countries
such as Italy, and we started to see the first glimpse of that today,”
he said. The interest rate on a €9.5bn (£8,2bn) issue of Italian
notes jumped to 0.814pc, up from 0.568pc in March. Italy has the
world’s third biggest debt in absolute terms.' [- www.telegraph.co.uk ]

Greece is one thing, but once the crisis reaches big countries like
Spain and Italy - which it already seems to be starting to do - then
it could easily become a global Tsunami. I have heard that David
Wilkerson prophesied years ago about a coming "Debt default" by
a nation causing a huge financial storm. It is still too early to
tell if this is it. But certainly the "Great Recession" is not over yet.
A time to pray and prepare, my friends.

This topic is being discussed at the following website-

Prophetic Perfect

Prophetic Perfect
By Bob Mumford www.lifechangers.org

Even as [in His love] He chose us [actually picked us out for Himself as His own] in Christ before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy (consecrated and set apart for Him) and blameless in His sight, even above reproach, before Him in love.”

Only the eternal, uncreated, omnipotent and omniscient God has the capacity and willingness to declare a thing to be what it is years before it has even come into being. The Seed is God’s inheritance in the form of the prophetic perfect. God speaks of the future as if it were already in the present and declares something complete because it is anchored in the certainty of God’s intention to bring it to fulfillment.

Results are well over the horizon, so we cannot see them yet. This is another way of saying, “bringing many sons to glory.” There are many prophetic perfect statements in Scripture such as, “For the Lord has created a new thing in the earth.” God’s confidence is in His ability to bring His Own purpose into being. Because He knows the end from the beginning, He calls that which is naught as though it is. We can better understand the coming of the Kingdom as seen in Matthew 5 - 7 in this light. These chapters describe what we will be like when the Kingdom Seed has been cultivated and is fruitful in our own lives. Often travail is necessary to bring forth God’s purposes. He knows what we will look like when He is done with us and He speaks the prophetic perfect into each of us. We may not be able to see it yet, but we do see Him. Living in the prophetic perfect requires us to see through rather than look at circumstances. In the prophetic perfect, whatever God wants to do in us is already achieved.

The Eternal Seed falls into this prophetic perfect category. God’s confidence is in His ability to bring His own purposes into being. Jesus told us that if we followed Him into His Kingdom, we would look like Him when we got there. We cannot make ourselves loving, but He can. He does so by means of imparting to us His nature in the form of Agape as the Eternal Seed.

Success is in generational transfer; it is not just what you can do, but what you can get others to accomplish. We are to cultivate the Agape Seed in our own backyard and in the nations of the world. Jesus said He accomplished the work that the Father gave Him to do. I always thought that was the crucifixion, but it primarily had to do with delivering the eleven disciples from their own selfish darkness and bringing them into the governing principles of the Kingdom. The entire chapter of John 17 is Jesus praying for the eleven disciples. Jesus was going away and everything depended on them. The disciples were His success or His generational transfer and He spoke the prophetic perfect into their lives. The Eternal Seed is destined to bring forth a disciple, not a convert. Conformity to the image of God’s Son is not inevitable—it takes cultivation in us and in others. Even when we can’t see it, God is faithful to fulfill His Word.

Learning to cultivate, nourish, and prophetically speak to the Seed and call it forth into all God intended is what makes us farmers.

THOUGHTS & QUESTIONS
• Explain how living in the prophetic perfect requires us to see through rather than look at.
• Why does it take cultivation to be conformed into the image of God’s Son?
• How does the prophetic perfect result in generational transfer?

Is Allah the God of the Bible?

Is Allah the God of the Bible?
By (Former Congressman) Mark Siljander www.adeadlymisunderstanding.com

I wanted to preface this as I have had conversations around this topic before which created some misunderstandings that had to be worked through. I believe it is important to know about the author, former Congressman Mark Siljander. God has used Mark to create meaningful and life changing dialogue between leaders and communities that include Christians, Muslims and Jews. My prayer is that you see the importance of communication and seeing what Father will do, when we engage in love and understanding. I also recognized that even mong Christianity, our individual views of who One God is, covers a wide spectrum. I recommend the book Mark wrote, and it can be found along with other great resouces on His website www.adeadlymisunderstanding.com.

Second Bridge to the Common Ground

Is Allah the God of the Bible?©

(Taken from Chapter 9 of a manuscript dealing with the “Seven Bridges to the Common Ground”

written by Mark Siljander)

This is one of the most painful misunderstandings among Christians. Most laymen and leaders feel that Allah is not the same God as the God of the Hebrews, or Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Ishmael. In fact, they argue Allah is a moon-god. Televangelist Benny Hinn has commented, “This is not a war between Arabs and Jews. It's a war between God and the devil."

It would be wonderful if Christians and Muslims could get beyond the basics of respecting another’s name for God and reach a consensus. It would open doors to desperately needed dialogue and communication, allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal common ground as to the nature of God. Let us make sure this “feeling” towards Allah is not merely a trained cultural response and/or an emotional one, but instead cultivate a view founded on fact and linguistics, seated in an understanding of the history and culture surrounding the origins of the names for God. Let us also approach this issue asking God to reveal the truth to us, as much as we are able to understand.

Seminary Students Finally Accept It, But Not Without a Fight!

I recall speaking to an assembly of seminary students in Lancaster, PA a few years ago. When questioned, their view was unanimous that Allah was a false god and in fact, derived from a moon-god of ancient times. They were ready and had a prepared statement to read:

During the nineteenth century[1], then later in the 1940’s[2], and finally during the 1950's[3], archeologists’ digs gathered from both North and South Arabia depict evidence of a moon-god (called Hubal[4] during pre-Islamic times). This deity was worshiped even in the Prophet Muhammad's day. According to inscriptions, while the name of the moon-god was not Allah, his title was al-ilah, i.e. "the deity," meaning that he was the chief or high god among the gods.

The moon-god was called al-ilah, “the god.” However, this name (Arabic: Il or Ilah) did not originate as a title for the moon-god. Thousands of years before that, Semites used variations of Il/El and Alah to refer to their high gods.

Noted Christian historian Philip Hitti also feels the designation of Allah as a moon-god is not correct. [5][6] The Islamic symbol of the crescent moon is often raised as evidence reflecting a moon god. However, history reveals that the Ottoman invaders of the Byzantine Empire simply adopted their defeated Christian foe’s symbol of the crescent moon and continued using it.[7]

Muhammad viewed monotheists in history such as Abraham and those in his time as haneef, believers in the One Supreme God, creator of the heavens and universe, inspirer of the prophets through the Rouh Qudus, the “Holy Spirit.”

I shared with the seminary students,

“If Allah was indeed one of the 360 gods represented in the Kabba in Mecca prior to Muhammad, it does not preclude one of them being the One True God of the Old and New Testament. It could be considered similar to Paul on Mars Hill in Acts 17, identifying the true God from all the false idols. Muhammad did the same by destroying all the other idols in the Kabba, leaving the one ilah. The Apostle Paul faced similar push back with the Greek pagans as Muhammad did with the Arab pagans. After gaining their attention by quoting various Greek philosophers, Paul announced that he knew the name of this ‘unknown god’ and proceeded to teach of the one true God. The scripture says that while ‘some mocked…many followed and surrendered’ to God. The point being, that the origins of a name do not always reflect on the later application.”

The seminary students were listening, but I could tell they were not with me yet.

To emphasize the point, I delved further into the origins of the name “God” from a linguistic viewpoint.

Is the English “God” Pagan?

If one argues the name “Allah” is pagan-based, what about the origins of the English word “God?” I personally was stunned to learn that it actually has more historic baggage than Semitic words such as Allah. “God” is derived from a proto-Germanic pagan word (possibly Zoroastrian) for a water god, water spirit, or idol (pronounced “gut”). It held no gender until the Germanic tribes adopted Christianity, when the male gender was later included.

Is the Greek and Latin for “God” also Pagan?

Next we reviewed the history of our theologically favored Greek and Latin words for “God.” The Greek Theos (from whence we derive “theology,” “theologian,” etc.) has a heathen Greek origin, from the Indo-European root dhes. The popular Latin word deus –along with the Spanish dios and French dieu–is also pagan-based. The Greek god Zeus has the root dyeu and is the origin of the word for God used in the early Latin Vulgate version of the Bible.

So, let's say that thousands of years ago, the ancient word Allah may have been based on a moon-god (which as we have seen is itself an open question). Perhaps the more relevant question is: what meaning does the present use of the word evoke for people today and to which god is it referring? Would any English speaking person think when they say “God” that they are referring to a Germanic water-spirit? Of course not! The English word is commonly used by Christians for false gods, simply inserting a capital “G” when referring to the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Ishmael. When Latino believers speak of Dios, are they referencing the origin of the name, and speaking of the Greek god Zeus? Certainly not!

For over 500 years before the Muslim Prophet Mohammed, Arab Christians and even some Jews in the Arabian Peninsula used the Arabic word Allah for God. 10-12 million Christian Arabs currently use Allah every day as their Arabic word for God. Are they praying to a moon-god? What of the five million Assyrian and Chaldean Christians who pray to Alaha, a derivative of Allah?[8] Rev. John Booko, one of the officiating pastors at my wife’s and my wedding, who is an Assyrian Evangelical Christian, always prays “in the Aramaic/Syriac name of Alaha.”

The Hebrew Name for “God”

Are the Jews who pray to the Old Testament’s Elohim praying to the same God as all the rest? Is it, or is it not, the same God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Ishmael, whether spoken in any language?

An Israeli Semitic language scholar once told me:

In Canaan El was the chief deity of the Canaanite pantheon and was worshipped as a bull deity (which is where the whole idea of the golden calf in Exodus came from). The Israelites were worshipping the true God in a proscribed form. The Aramaic form of this was Alah, which under the influence of a linguistic shift known as the “Canaanite Shift” in Hebrew became Eloah. The plural form of the latter, which is also used in the Hebrew Bible, is Elohim. But the Aramaic Alah was how one said “God” in that language, even in Jesus’ day. Thus if Jesus spoke Aramaic, then he also called God Alah; Arabic came up with nothing new when it referred to the one true God as Alah. In fact, Arabic-speaking Christians would have used this word for God long before Mohammed was born.[9]

The general Hebrew term for God is El. The Israeli airline is named El Al, where El also means “up” in the air. El is a shortened version of Elohim,[10] which is the plural of Eloah, as we touched on before. It is used throughout the Old Testament over 2,300 times. Ironically, even Elohim has pagan roots. Elohim as well as El were ancient Canaanite, Phoenician and Amharic/Ethiopian names for deity.[11]

Perhaps the most specific Hebrew name for God is YHWH, also mistakenly referred to as Yehovah, meaning self-existent and eternal. YHWH is rooted from ‘Hayah’, the to be verb, which is from ‘Hava’, to breathe, or to be, which connects to ‘Ayil’. Finally ‘Ayil’ leads us back to ‘El’, which is the root of all the Semitic names for God. YHWH is spoken aloud on rare Jewish celebrations as just “Ya.” Jews often replaced the actual name of God for Adonay (Lord) orally and in their written scripts.

The Arabic Name for “God”

As we have discussed, the Arabic word for God is Allah. It also is derived from the Aramaic Hebrew word, El. It is a contraction of Al and Ilahi, which literally means “the God.” (Al is Arabic for “the” as in Isa al-Mesiah “Jesus the Christ.”) The Arab “Ilahi” is the same word for God as used in the Hebrew and Aramaic.[12] In fact, if one were to remove all the vowel markings (Semitic languages are all consonants and use markings to make vowels) from the Arabic Al-Ilahi and Hebrew El-Elohim (both meaning “the God”), remove the plural of the words and they are transliterated nearly identically as Al-Alh and A-Alh. Both words correspond back to the Aramaic Alah and the Syriac Alaha.

The definition afforded by The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia is as follows:

“Allah (ăl'É™, ä'lÉ™), [Arab.=the God]. Derived from an old Semitic root referring to the Divine and used in the Canaanite El, the Mesopotamian ilu, and the biblical Elohim, the word Allah is used by all Arabic-speaking Muslims, Christians, Jews, and others. Allah, as a deity, was probably known in pre-Islamic Arabia. Arabic chronicles suggest a pre-Islamic recognition of Allah as a supreme God, with the three goddesses al-Lat, al-Uzza, and Manat as his “daughters.” The Prophet Muhammad, declaring Allah the God of Abraham, demanded a return to a strict monotheism.”[13]

Aramaic: Could Jesus Have Used the Same Word for “God” as the Muslims?

The Aramaic word for God is Elah, or Alaha,[14] also derived from El.[15] The ancient Hebrew word Elah, means “something strong,” like trees of the oak, rooted in Elijah, meaning God of YHWH, which again leads us to its root, El.[16]

Elah[17] is used about 70 times in the Old Testament. When combined with other words, we see different attributes of God. Some examples: Elah Yerush'lem - God of Jerusalem: (Ezra 7:19); Elah Yisrael - God of Israel: (Ezra 5:1); Elah Sh'maya - God of Heaven: (Ezra 7:23); Elah Sh'maya V'Arah - God of Heaven and Earth: (Ezra 5:11).[18]

There are also several verses in the Qur’an using Elah and its derivatives, Il or El. These words are specifically referred to in the Qur’an (see Sura 9:8 and 10). While some Islamic scholars understand it to mean blood ties, most others take it as short for the Arabic word Ilah, meaning “Lord.” It could also be the Arabicized Aramaic Hebrew for EL as in Ismael (Ishmael), which means "God listens" and/or Elah, or Deity, from its original Aramaic or Syriac. It may surprise some people to know that even Jesus used this form for God in Matt. 24:47 when he cried out in the Aramaic language, “Eli, Eli”, meaning “my God, my God.”

Jesus, an Aramaic speaker, would naturally use Alaha just as Aramaic speakers do today. It is simply the Aramaic version of the identical Arabic word Allah. “The cognate Aramaic term appears in the Aramaic version of the New Testament, called the Peshitta, as one of the words Jesus used to refer to God, e.g., in the sixth Beatitude, ‘Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see Alaha.’ The Arabic Bible uses the same word in Matt. 5:8, for instance, translated Allah.”[19]

While all this may seem confusing, simply stated and confirmed by Brown, Driver, and Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, El is the root word for God in Hebrew, Elohim; in Aramaic, Alaha; and in Arabic, Allah. Furthermore, they connote the same God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Ishmael. In addition, the prophesied Messiah in Isaiah 9:6 of the Tenach is referred to as El.

After speaking at a peace conference in Egypt, I approached the heads of the Lutheran and Coptic (Egyptian) Churches who were in attendance. I asked these two Christian leaders what name they used for “God” in their churches. They looked at me very puzzled and responded “Allah, of course!” They would be shaken to know that probably 99 percent of Western Christians do not think Allah is the same God as the Christian God. Their response to my seemingly stupid question is a microcosm of the answer; it is simply the Arabic word for “God.”

The “Correct” Name of God

Eventually the seminary students clearly understood the different forms of “the name of God” used in the Holy Books. Hebrew El, Aramaic Alaha and Arabic Allah are identical words derived from the same linguistic root, using the Semitic letters Alef-Lamed-He, pronounced ila. Such names should not be the focus of scorn, or the cause of division and war. The slight modifications among each of the language groupings simply reflect different pronunciations conforming to the historical pattern of cognate shifts in each tongue, not different words. To put it simply, the Latin, Spanish, and Italian words for God (Deus, Dios, and Dio) and the English and German words (God and Gott) all mean the same as do the Semitic Allah, Alaha and Elohim.

Islam and Judaism do not have a problem seeing the God of each tradition as the God of Abraham, so why should we? The students lined up after the presentation to express their shock and excitement.

Christian vs Islamic View of God

One student, in a last effort to refute the presentation, conceded “Islam may be referring to the same God as the Jews and Christians linguistically, but Islam sees God very differently than Christianity.” I responded that while this may be true to a degree; in my work I have found that those differences are much narrower than we might first suppose.

There are indeed differences of perception about God, just as there are many views people may have of you! Some view you as a friend, others as an enemy. Some may look at you as someone who is fair, others as a scoundrel. My wife views me as a partner, lover, etc, much differently than my children; they in turn see me differently than my siblings. Moreover, each of them has their individual understanding of me, my character, nature and directives. But I am the same person, viewed differently by different people.

Christians demand that Muslims view God in the context of our particular doctrine alone as evidence of following the “true” God. One needs to be careful as this premise negates Jews of the Torah as believing in the same God. After all, Jews do not accept Jesus as Messiah, let alone see Him as God’s Word, Spirit and supernaturally conceived like the Muslims do. Perhaps enforcing our respective dogma on others is why Christians are themselves so divided into 33,000 sects and denominations. Do any of the 147 varieties of Baptists view God exactly the same? What about Pentecostals, Catholics, Methodists, or Quakers?

From another standpoint we cannot assume that current struggles with extremism within Islam represent the whole of its history or its future. Who did the Christian church claim as God when engaged for centuries in Crusades, enforcing the Inquisition or rising up in violence against each other, Protestant and Catholic? That behavior was unconscionable, but do we say that those being misled at that time did not pray to the same God as we do now? Clearly, the performance of the human family does not define who God is.

However unlikely it seems, a careful review of the Muslim Holy Book reveals Christians share much more with Muslims in our concept of who God is than we might think. After reading the Qur’an, most would agree we are all referring to the one God: magnificent and omnipresent, omnipotent creator of heaven and earth, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Ishmael. He is the God of the prophets, such as Abraham, Moses, Daniel, Noah and John the Baptist.

He is the same God who sent the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary, who birthed a sinless Messiah named Jesus through the Holy Spirit. The same Jesus, who could heal the sick, raise the dead, was taken up to God and is coming back on Judgment Day. There is of course much more to discuss, but what other God could all this be referring to?

In the end, the seminary students were nearly unanimous, agreeing that the three major faiths do pray and refer to a monotheistic god, and that linguistically they are the same “God.” While many left changed in attitude, most confessed discomfort using Allah in place of “God.” Western bias against it is difficult to break.

I must confess that after extensive Western/Christian training myself, it has taken time for me to feel comfortable using the Arabic term, Allah, for God in conversations. My mentor, who has been a pastor for 50 years, helps me break my dogmatically negative feeling about Allah when he prays in the name of Alaha in his Aramaic language.

Do we not all fancy ourselves on a path seeking revelation of the “true” God? None of us has to scratch very deeply to find out that our concept of God is different from another’s concept of God. My concept of God is not the same as when I first believed. Some days it is not even the same as it was the day before. God is revealing himself from day to day through dialogue, reading of the Scriptures and through experiences. Because some have not arrived at what each of us might believe is His true nature, let us not condemn another, and cut ourselves off from others in the process of their search.

What I have hoped to outline here is evidence that the Abrahamic faith traditions share the same linguistic name for God and describe God’s character similarly, despite each of our defined differences. When Muslims open a door to explore common ground we should not slam it in their face.

I have run out of space, but allow me to share one last thought. In interfaith relations, the nature, person and mission of Jesus of Nazareth is often seen as the crux of the problem, when ironically, he is in fact the extraordinary solution. These “differences” are explored further in the other six “Bridges to the Common Ground” chapters.

For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then we will see face to face.

[8] The Aramaic word Alaha is also spelled Elaha. “The –'a' at the end is the determined form, which originally meant 'the' in regular Aramaic. By the time the Syriac language was in its heyday, the determined forms were otiose, as occurred in the East Aramaic dialects in general, including Jewish Babylonian Aramaic and Mandaic.” Dr. Eldon Clem, private communication to author.

[10] The Hebrew word translated "God" ('elohim) is a plural noun denoting majesty, and the writers of Scripture used it as an honorific title. Though it is plural in form, it is singular in meaning when referring to the true God. This name represents the Creator's transcendent relationship to His creation. Dr. Thomas L. [12] “Jewish Arabic translation of the Torah was translated by the Jewish scholar Saadia Gaon before 1000 AD and has been used by Middle Eastern Jews until the present time…There were other Jewish Arabic translations as well, notably the one made by the Karaites at the same time as Saadia. All of these Jewish translations use Allah as the name of God, using it to translate both Elohim and YHWH. There are multitudes of ancient Christian Arabic translations of Scripture, from the seventh century until now, and they all without exception use Allah.” Brown, 80-81.

[14] The determined form, meaning “the God,” although in later Syriac when the determined forms lose their force, “Alaha” becomes the normal way of saying “God.”

[15] Dr. Imad Nicola Shehadeh, President and Professor of Theology, Jordan Evangelical Theological Seminary, private communication to author, Feb. 2006: “I agree with you that the term ‘Allah’ comes from the Aramaic/Syriac ‘Allaha’ (from now on, when I say Aramaic, I mean Aramaic/Syriac). The evidence is overwhelming. I have published an article on this in order to show that Allah was not originally a moon-god as some have suggested, but came from the Aramaic Allaha used by Jews and Christians of Muhammad's day. (If interested, please see Bibliotheca Sacra journal, volume 161, issue 641, 2004).”
