When David Captured Jerusalem, Part 2

When David Captured Jerusalem,
Part 2

(En Español)
From his earliest years David knew God was calling him to defeat the Jebusites. In fact, Scripture tells us that when David was still just a youth, after he killed Goliath, he took the "Philistine's head and brought it to Jerusalem" (1 Sam. 17:54). At that time, Jerusalem was called Jebus and was occupied by the Jebusites. It was as though David were saying, "Okay, I'm just a young buck, but I've conquered this Philistine giant. Remember me; I will be back."
Fewer than twenty years later David returned, now as king of Israel. As he had conquered Goliath, so he conquered the stronghold of the Jebusites and renamed it the "City of David," soon to be known as Jerusalem.
This exploit of David’s was not centered around his personal fulfillment, but on the fulfillment of God's Word. God's Word cannot return to Him without fulfilling its purpose. When King David heard the taunts of the Jebusites, he interpreted his strategy in light of the promises of God. At stake was the integrity of the Lord's personal promise to Abraham and to his seed: "Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies" (Gen. 22:17, NIV). While the Jebusites had history on their side, David had the unalterable Word of God on his side!
It is the heritage of Abraham's spiritual offspring to bring the prevailing influence of God into their communities. That is not my word or yours, but the promise of God Almighty! He said it and He will fulfill it. His people shall possess the gates of their enemies. It is a reproach to us that the devil wants our cities more than the Church does! David's desire for Jerusalem was a godly desire that came to him from the Lord. Indeed, what outwardly was to become David's city was soon to become the city of God.
As David simply believed God's Word, so also must we. The Lord has promised that "nations will come to [our] light" (Isa. 60:3). Let us take God at His word! "All things are possible to him who believes" (Mark 9:23). Do you believe? Or are you just a nice unbeliever who goes to church?
Beloved, if we fail, it is no great shame. We simply join the ranks of the spiritual heroes who went before us, who "died in faith, without receiving the promises" (Heb. 11:13). In truth, it is better to die in faith than to live in doubt.
But consider: What if we succeed? What if we find in these last days the Spirit of God helping us to see our cities healed and our nations turned?
Lord, You have promised that nations shall come to our light. Forgive me for wavering in unbelief and for allowing yesterday's failures or attainments to precondition me! I see the enemy mocking our faith, but I believe that You have prepared our nation for great things. We will follow Your promise to dislodge our enemies, even as David conquered Jebus and called it the City of God! In Jesus' name, Amen.

TRAINING WEEKEND in HAMILTON - Andrew Strom

TRAINING WEEKEND - Hamilton, NZ - DETAILS BELOW:

After Torben's "Kickstart" weekend on the Gold Coast I got talking
to Chris Bradley - a preacher from Northland who has participated
in five or six Kickstarts and who is strong in healing and teaching.
We knew there was unlikely to be any of these weekends held in
New Zealand for some time, but felt it was very needful.

So together with Mike Taylor we held the first of these weekends in
Northland a few weeks ago. There were many healings, baptisms
and people filled with the Holy Spirit. Praise God! But best of all,
a number of people seemed to make the "jump" up to a new level
of expectancy and faith for healings, etc. One of my enduring
memories was when a man came forward who had had a serious
stroke. He had pain all over his body and could not move his head
from side to side. Some of the "newest" people were asked to
pray for him, and as they commanded healing in the name of
JESUS, suddenly the pain was gone and he could turn his head!
All through that session he was seen turning his head back and
forth, checking his pain-free legs, etc - in wonder. Praise Jesus!

We believe God wants to release the "whole body" to do the work
of the ministry. The days of the 'one man band' are coming to an
end.

DETAILS of TRAINING WEEKEND:

DATES:  22nd - 24th April, 2016. (Starts at 7:00pm on Fri 22nd).
VENUE: Te Whanau Putahi baptist hall, 37 Oxford St, Fairfield,
Hamilton 3214.
COST: Entry is no charge.
START TIMES:  7pm Friday, 10am Saturday, 10am Sunday.
FACILITATORS: Chris Bradley, Andrew Strom and Mike Taylor.
TEACHING TOPICS:  Healing the sick, casting out demons,
baptizing, preaching the full gospel that the apostles preached...
CONTACT: Chris Bradley - 027-2230850.

This is a very practical, hands-on weekend. Please come
"PRAYED UP" - expecting great things from God rather than man.

We look forward to seeing you there if you can make it, my
friends. Please let your contacts know.

God bless you all.

When David Captured Jerusalem, Part 1

When David Captured Jerusalem,
Part 1

(En Español)
One of the great errors of the Church is to limit the expectation of our faith to what God did with previous generations. It is not wrong to want what others had, but God actually has more for us than what occurred in past eras. Indeed, many promises concerning the Church are yet to be fulfilled before Jesus returns. The Bible tells us that the Church will not only experience "perilous times" in the last days (2 Tim. 3:1, KJV), but seasons of renewal and restoration (Acts 3:21). Consequently, in the midst of worldwide conflicts, the Kingdom of God on earth will continually be restored and renewed until it is conformed to the Kingdom of God in Heaven! Plan on seeing new harvests and expressions of God's glory and power. We should expect to see wonders that our fathers did not see (Acts 2:19-21)! Yes, and let us also trust that the promises we fail to possess, our children will walk in.
We can find encouragement and guidance once again in the life of King David. He was born into a time similar to ours. The Hebrews were in the Promised Land, but they shared the land with unconquered enemies. When David became king, he knew that God had promised more for Israel than the Jews had attained. In particular was the fact that the Jebusites still occupied the area now known as Jerusalem. Now if David measured himself by the success of his predecessors, he never would have contemplated an attack against the Jebusites. The Jebusites were a fierce mountain people and, in spite of being on the list of nations to be dispossessed by Israel, they had never been conquered.
Think of it: Israel's greatest heroes from Joshua to the judges had tried and failed to conquer the Jebusites. Thus, the Jebusites were contemptuous when they heard of David's plan to possess their chief city, Jebus (Jerusalem). They mocked Israel's young king, saying, "You shall not come in here, but the blind and lame will turn you away" (2 Sam.5:6).
There are two lessons here. First, for everyone who desires to see the awesome promises of God fulfilled, the Lord is saying to us all, Don't be conditioned by the past! Just because you have not seen the manifest power of God over your church or city or nation, do not take that as a forerunner of things to come. God can change everything overnight.
The second lesson is this: it probably will not be the devil himself who comes out to defeat us; rather, we must guard against the misguided advice of unbelieving Christians. Remember, the taunt of the Jebusites was that the "blind and lame shall turn you away." We may stand firm in faith against the spiritual hosts of wickedness only to be defeated by the spiritually "blind and lame" sitting next to us in church.
Who are the blind? Put simply, they are the ones who do not see the vision you see. They are blind to the faith-future God has put in your heart. We cannot let people who do not see our visions become our counselors. Beware of becoming sympathetic toward the spiritually blind. A little leaven of their unbelief can undermine your faith in a time of battle.
Along with the spiritually blind are the emotionally lame. These are people who have stumbled over something (or someone) in the past. They no longer walk stride for stride with Christ. Beware of sharing your dreams with cynics. If we heed the warnings of the "lame," it will only be a matter of time before their woundedness and lack of grace depletes our strength. Then we, too, will become overly cautious and suspicious.
Although we need counsel from other Christians, and we must remain forgiving and kind toward those in opposition, we cannot allow the words of the spiritually blind and the emotionally lame to guide us.
Of course, our real enemies are the spiritual forces of wickedness influencing our communities, not those suffering from physical problems. Jesus certainly can heal us. But the fact is, like those Jebusites, Satan has watched the failures of many Christians before us. One can almost sense the devil's scorn as pastors and intercessors pray for citywide or national revival. The devil's taunts are not without substance, for generally speaking, our spiritual forebears have failed in dislodging the strongholds of wickedness from their cities. History is indeed on the adversary's side.
But God has given us His unalterable, immutable Word. He promises:
"For the vision is yet for the appointed time; it hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; for it will certainly come, it will not delay. Behold, as for the proud one, his soul is not right within him; but the righteous will live by his faith" (Hab. 2:3-4).
To "live by faith" is to believe God until the vision He gave comes to pass. David believed God, and in spite of history being on the side of the Jebusites, we read: "Nevertheless, David captured the stronghold of Zion" (2 Sam. 5:7).

MIRACLES ARE a MUST!

MIRACLES ARE a MUST!
by Andrew Strom

In recent years my website and this List have become known
mostly for preaching repentance and opposing deception. In times
like these this is obviously a needful thing. But there are also
negatives to it. I have noticed that when people focus too much
on the dangers of deception, they tend to go right over to the other
extreme. They become quite "gun-shy" of anything miraculous -
overly suspicious of anything 'powerful' that happens. They forget
that God is an extremely "supernatural" God. They forget that the
true gospel is supposed to be accompanied by healings and
miracles - the mighty demonstration of the Spirit's power.

Even if we preach with powerful conviction, the fact is, without
miracles I have to wonder whether we really are representing
true New Testament Christianity. I am totally convinced that we
must have both the 'word' and the visible demonstration of
God's power. Just like they did in the Book of Acts.

In 1947 Smith Wigglesworth gave a prophecy about the "coming
together of those with an emphasis on the word and those with
an emphasis on the Spirit." He said: "When the word and the
Spirit come together, there will be the biggest move of the Holy
Spirit that the nation, and indeed, the world has ever seen. It will
mark the beginning of a revival that will eclipse anything that has
been witnessed within these shores, even the Wesleyan and
Welsh revivals of former years...."

There it is - the WORD and the SPIRIT joined.

Let me ask a simple question: What did people "see" when they
came across Jesus' ministry? They saw a simple, piercing
gospel being preached and also the 'kingdom' being domonstrated
through healings and miracles. That is basically what they saw.
And what did people "see" in the ministry of the apostles and
evangelists of Acts? They saw the same thing. An anointed,
piercing gospel and mighty demonstrations of God's power - both
together. In fact, we really should ask ourselves, 'Is it possible to
preach the gospel (in the full New Testament sense) without
healings and miracles?' If we are being truly scriptural, surely
we would have to answer, "NO, IT IS NOT." They are totally
designed to go together.

Another question- Why is the casting out of demons so important
in demonstrating the 'kingdom'? Well - what it is showing is the
greater AUTHORITY found in the name and the 'king-ship' of
Jesus Christ. Even demons have to obey Him! Suddenly everyone
sees this beyond a doubt when a demon is cast out before their
eyes. I remember the first time I saw this happen as a teenager -
before I was a true Christian. The person screamed and writhed as
the demon was cast out - just like in the Bible. And what was the
result in me? CONVICTION! Suddenly everything was 'REALLY
TRUE'! I felt like running forward and surrendering to God on the spot.

And this is why I have to question the casting out of demons in a
"back room" somewhere. Notice that Jesus never did this. He cast
out demons in PUBLIC - so that the 'kingdom' was demonstrated
and God was glorified. Notice too, that deliverance seemed to be
relatively quick and decisive.

We have got to see the 'Word and the Spirit joined' like this in our
day, my friends. And that is why I am so encouraged by recent
developments - even in my own life. Just a few days ago I prayed
for a lady that had been in hospital for a stomach operation with
all kinds of complications. Very unwell. But she was immediately
healed in the mighty name of JESUS!

I believe we have come into a "new season" where this kind of
thing will become the expected 'norm' every day. That is what I
have seen. And the great thing is that we are finding we can pass
this onto others also. I am convinced this is to be a day of "whole
body" ministry - where every Christian is out healing the sick,
casting out demons and preaching a mighty gospel. The day
of the "one man band" is coming to an end. Glory to Jesus!

Tai Nua, Chinese Shan in China

Tai Nua, Chinese Shan in China
The Tai Nua are historically part of the great Tai race of Asia, which dispersed during the past millennia to now inhabit parts of China, Laos, Vietnam, Myanmar, India, and, of course, Thailand. After a Tai Nua wedding ceremony the bridegroom goes to live with his bride's family. Traditionally he must take with him gifts of tea, rice, meat, bananas, four eggs, and two salted fish for his new in-laws. Upon arrival, the village elder takes the packets of tea and rice out to the road and calls on the spirits of heaven and earth to witness the marriage. He then ties a white thread seven times around the wrist of the bride and once around the wrist of the groom to indicate their unbreakable commitment to each other. Although they are nominally Theravada Buddhists, the Tai Nua have many aspects of animism and polytheism mixed into their beliefs.
Ministry Obstacles
Buddhists typically have little awareness of their own sin and their need for forgiveness.
Outreach Ideas
Please pray that some Han Chinese Christians will be given an interest in telling the Tai Nua about the Savior, Jesus Christ. Pray they will commit to seeing real disciples of Christ produced.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a few Christians among the Tai Nua. Please pray these and others who will soon join them will learn to live lives of thanksgiving and praise and will be faithful in prayer.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Buddhist and animist Tai Nua tribe will be given a growing desire for a Savior from sin. If they have this desire, learning of Jesus the Savior will be good news indeed.

Holy Spirit Radar

Holy Spirit Radar
(En Español)
For nothing is hidden that will not become evident, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
                                                                    ---Luke 8:17

The peace of Christ is not just a divine attribute; it is also an organ of communication in the language of God. The Holy Spirit uses peace to communicate with us. If a situation warrants caution, our peace is troubled; if a direction is rightly chosen, peace confirms it. Thus, we are admonished by God's Word to "let the peace of Christ rule in [our] hearts" (Col. 3:15). The literal translation for rule is "to act as arbiter."
As we debate in our souls a course of action, Christ's peace acts like a spiritual radar. It helps make our powers of discernment more effective.
When we first were born again, it was not to a religion that we gave our hearts; it was to Christ through the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God actually entered our lives, and with Him came His inner witness of peace. This is not a little thing, for the Gospel is actually called the "Gospel of Peace" (Eph. 6:15).
Of course, the "circuitry" that makes our spirit-guidance system accurate is our knowledge of God's Word. We must, therefore, be grounded in God's Word. We are not discussing a psychic ability but a spiritual faculty that is part of our relationship with Christ.
Scripture says that Jesus was "aware in His spirit" of the thoughts and motives of others (Mark 2:8). So again, the faculty we want to develop is a spiritual thing, not soulish - and definitely not something borrowed from the occult. Coupled with the Word of God, your radar can be a type of scanner that actually discerns hidden issues or danger. Thus, you can trust the Holy Spirit's guidance to help you recognize what may be troubling you in your spirit.
For example, I was conducting a Bible study on a college campus when a young man came into the room, sat down and joined us. Outwardly he appeared clean-cut but I felt cautioned by my inner radar, so I stopped the Bible study and asked him openly if he were involved in witchcraft or the occult. He said no. However, even though he was clean-cut, the warning in my spirit wouldn't go away. I asked again, and again he denied any connections to witchcraft. I felt the Holy Spirit focus upon his coat pocket, so I asked him what was in his coat pocket. This time he answered honestly, pulling two chicken claws out of his pocket. He had just been to an occult ritual. His response now was more humble, and we were able to actually pray with him for salvation before we left.
Some say that God doesn't speak to them, but this is not true. They just haven't learned the language of the Spirit. When the Holy Spirit comes, He brings communication with Heaven: dreams, visions and prophecies all represent union with God. Therefore, you must believe God can get through to you. What you need is the ability to interpret the influences of God upon your spirit. To sense what the Spirit of God is saying to you is, at its essence, the source of true spiritual discernment. In this regard, it is good to remember John's words:
These things I have written to you concerning those who are trying to deceive you. As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him. ---1 John 2:26-27
So let's put this into perspective: we have an inner witness that gives us peace while helping us decide and discern. This "peace connection" does not, however, allow us to ignore input from leaders or others whom God may use. While we must maintain sovereignty over our will, God gives us ministries to train and equip us (Eph. 4:11-12).
That said, it is the anointing of the Holy Spirit that is the final amen to the truth of God.
Our goal is to develop that inner witness, for when it is united with knowledge of the Word of God, we have a powerful resource added to our arsenal of faith. Remember, the Spirit and the Word always agree. So if you memorize and study the Word of God and walk in the Spirit, you will increasingly possess discernment.

The Three Battlegrounds - Ebook
Any time the Spirit of God's kingdom is truly manifested in the earth, it will ultimately confront the strongholds of hell. Indeed, wherever evil spirits have either a foothold or a stronghold, you can expect that the overcoming church will be engaged in warfare, and expect also that the gates of hell will not prevail against the church that Jesus builds.
In this book, Francis Frangipane explores the three arenas of spiritual warfare that the maturing Christian will face: the mind, the church and the heavenly places. It provides a foundation of insight, wisdom and discernment on the nature of the battle and the keys to victory.

GREAT QUOTES on TRUE SALVATION

"A world of nice people, content in their own niceness, looking no
further, turned away from God, would be just as desperately in
need of salvation as a miserable world - and might be even more
difficult to save."
-C.S. Lewis

"One single soul saved shall outlive and outweigh all the kingdoms
of the world."
- J. C. Ryle

"Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you are not saved
yourself. Be sure of that."
- Charles Spurgeon

"I am not the author of the plan of salvation, but I am responsible

- Billy Sunday

"For more than 60 years the Christian church has gone around
the world telling people to "pray this little prayer after me" in
order to be 'saved' or converted. Some call it "Asking Jesus into
your heart" or 'Giving your heart to the Lord,' or praying the
"Sinner's prayer." But would it surprise you to learn that such a
thing is found NOWHERE in the entire Bible? Is there ever a time
when an apostle or evangelist in the New Testament leads some-
one in such a "salvation prayer" - or anything like it? No - never."

Seeing Him Who Is Unseen

Seeing Him Who Is Unseen
(En Español)
There are times when, to lead us on into new authority and blessings, God must liberate us from the container of our previous experiences. Consider Elijah's encounter with the Most High on Mt Horeb. Three natural signs occurred. But the Lord was not in the wind, the earthquake or the fire -- all of which were familiar symbols to Elijah. The Lord who caused these mighty manifestations was not in them.
For Elijah, mighty manifestations had been signs of God's approval. But something new was at hand that required a fresh submission to the living God. A double portion of power was coming! The distinguishing characteristic of this new anointing would not only be seen in supernatural manifestations, but also in greater wisdom and compassion.
Earthquakes, fires, and storms -- the signs that accompanied Elijah -- are the signs of our times as well. But to receive the double portion, we must learn to recognize God's nearness when there are no "earthquakes" or "storms" to capture our attention. The Lord demands we enter a more refined relationship with Him, one that is based on His love and the whisper of His voice, not merely on spiritual phenomena or natural disasters.
After the last sign, there came "…a gentle blowing" (1 Kings 19:12). The King James Version says, "a still small voice." In holy silence the presence of God was returning; in the center of the silence was the whisper of God's voice. Elijah "wrapped his face in his mantle" (v. 13). Perhaps it was near this very site that Moses, five hundred years earlier, hid when the Lord passed by. Now it was Elijah's turn.
We too must learn to hear the voice of Him who rarely speaks audibly and observe the actions of Him who is otherwise invisible. Elijah would gain the courage to endure Jezebel's wrath the same way Moses faced the rage of Pharaoh: "He endured, as seeing Him who is unseen" (Heb. 11:27). We must learn to detect, without great signs, the still small voice of God.
The Lord will not fight for our attention; He must be sought. He will not startle us; He must be perceived. It took no special skill to "discern" the earthquake, the fire or the great storm. But to sense the holy quiet of God, our other activities must cease. In our world of great pressures and continual distractions, the attention of our hearts must rise to the invisible world of God's Spirit. We must learn to see Him who is unseen and hear Him who is rarely audible.
Oh Master, how easily I fall into dead religious habits and spiritual dullness. Lord, I long to know Your ways, to have eyes that really see and ears that clearly hear. Teach me, Lord Jesus, the intimacies of God. Remove the mystery surrounding Yourself that I might truly know You. Forgive me for looking for signs instead of listening for Your voice. Oh God, how I long to abide in Your glory. Restore to Your church the double portion You have promised, and guide us into the fullness of Your love. In Jesus' name. Amen.

GREAT QUOTES from WIGGLESWORTH

GREAT QUOTES from WIGGLESWORTH

"The Lord would so cleanse the motive and desires of our hearts
that we will seek but one thing only, and that is, His glory."
-Smith Wigglesworth

us when we measure God by the limitations of our unbelief."

greater than the old life."

The Wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Wisdom of
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

(En Español)
This being February, which is also Black History Month here in America, I thought it would be timely to recall and apply the wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King. He was a man for the ages, a preacher whom God raised up and anointed.
"In the final analysis, says the Christian ethic, every man must be respected because God loves him. The worth of an individual does not lie in the measure of his intellect, his racial origin, or his social position. Human worth lies in relatedness to God. An individual has value because he has value to God. Whenever this is recognized, "whiteness" and "blackness" pass away as determinants in a relationship and "son" and "brother" are substituted." --The Ethical Demands, Dec, 1962.
"Recognizing the necessity for suffering I have tried to make of it a virtue. If only to save myself from bitterness, I have attempted to see my personal ordeals as an opportunity to transform myself and heal the people involved in the tragic situation which now obtains. I have lived these last few years with the conviction that unearned suffering is redemptive. There are some who still find the cross a stumbling block, and others consider it foolishness, but I am more convinced than ever before that it is the power of God unto social and individual salvation." --Pilgrimage To Nonviolence, April, 1960.
"We have before us the glorious opportunity to inject a new dimension of love into the veins of our civilization. There is still a voice crying out in terms that echo across the generations, saying: Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, pray for them that despitefully use you, that you have be the children of your Father which is in Heaven...This love might well be the salvation of our civilization..." --Facing The Challenge Of A New Day, Dec, 1956.
"I have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places shall be made plain and the crooked places shall be made straight and the glory of the Lord will be revealed and all flesh shall see it together. This is our hope. This is the faith that I go back to the South with. With this faith we will be able to hew out of the mountain of despair a stone of hope. With this faith we will be able to transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood. With this faith we will be able to work together, to pray together..." --I Have A Dream, Aug, 1963.
The preceding quotes were taken from A Testament of Hope, edited by James M. Washington. My prayer is that we who call ourselves Americans would help fulfill the vision of Dr. King in our generation, that love would find its voice and its power to heal our land.

GREAT QUOTES on BAPTISM

GREAT QUOTES on BAPTISM

"Baptism with water is the sign and seal of baptism with the Spirit,
as much as it is of the forgiveness of sins. Water-baptism is the
initiatory Christian rite, because Spirit-baptism is the initiatory
Christian experience."
- John Stott

"After many painful trials, which none can know, but those who are
taught to relinquish a system in which they had been educated, I
settled down in the full persuasion, that the immersion of a
professing believer in Christ is the only Christian baptism."
- Adoniram Judson, missionary.

"I am obliged to take God´s Word as I find it, and here I read these
words of our Lord Jesus Christ, `He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved.´ `Do not dwell on the baptism,´ says one; `leave
that out.´ That is what you say, my dear Sir; I cannot see your
face, but I do not believe that you are my master. My Master is
the Lord who taught holy men to write this Book, and I can only
go by the Book; the Book has the baptism in it, so I must stick
to the truth as it is in the Book: `He that believeth and is baptized
shall be saved.´"
-Charles Spurgeon on Mark 16:16.

"Do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ
Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried
with Him through baptism into death."
-Romans 6:3-4, NKJV.

"Baptism sets forth the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ,
and our participation therein... We are buried with him in baptism
unto death..."
-Charles Spurgeon.

The Gift of Discernment

The Gift of Discernment
(En Español)
If we will serve with true discernment, our perception must be renewed until we see life through the eyes of Christ the Redeemer.
To Discern, You Cannot Judge
We will never possess mature, ongoing discernment until we crucify our instincts to judge. Realistically, for most of us, this may take an extended, focused season of uprooting old thought-systems -- attitudes that were not planted in faith and love for people. In truth, if we will appropriate the discernment born in the "mind of Christ," we must first find the heart of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16). The heart and love of Jesus is summed up in His own words: "I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world" (John 12:47). Yet even when the Lord does judge us, it is to save and deliver us.

Spiritual discernment is the grace to see into the unseen. It is a gift of the Spirit to perceive the realm of the spirit. Its purpose is to understand the nature of that which is veiled.
Yet there are many who suppose they are receiving the Lord's discernment concerning one thing or another. Perhaps in some things they are; only God knows. But many are simply judging others and calling it discernment. Jesus commanded us to judge not. He sends us into the world not as judges of man but, under Him, as co-redeemers. We are not sent to condemn people but to rescue them.
The Goal Is to See Clearly
The judgmental carnal mind always sees the image of itself in others. Without realizing it is seeing itself, it assumes it is perceiving others. Jesus refers to the person who judges others yet is guilty of the same sin as a "hypocrite." The Lord is not saying we should totally stop thinking about people. He wants us to be able to help one another. The emphasis in Jesus' command to "not judge" is summarized in His concluding remark: "First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye" (See Matt.7:1-5).

The way we help others is not by judging but by seeing clearly. This is the "righteous judgment" of which Jesus speaks in John 7:24. We do not "see clearly" until we have been through deep and thorough repentance, until the instinct to judge after "appearances" is uprooted.
We have seen that Jesus paralleled speaking to people about their sins with taking specks out of their eyes. The eye is the most tender, most sensitive part of the human body. How do you take a speck out of someone's eye? Very carefully! First, you must win their trust. This means consistently demonstrating an attitude that does not judge, one that will not instinctively condemn. To help others, we must first see clearly.
If you truly seek to crucify your instinct to judge and genuinely are pursuing Christ's redemptive heart, you will have laid a true foundation for the gift of discernment. You will have prepared your heart to receive dreams, visions and insights from God. You will be unstained by human bias. You will possess the mind and heart of Christ.

Fight using God's Wisdom and Discernment
The Three Battlegrounds
